Of course there will be event shirts this year. (It's a tradition.)
However, things will be a bit different this time. happy11.gif

Shirts will be FREE! flag.gif

The catch is that there will be only 10 shirts produced.
They will be awarded to the first 9 people to join the tour. smilie_pokal.gif
(Size request will be accepted to skew my order.) Red or Black.

When traveling across the country I use 40 and stop in Amarillo at Tyler's. He runs out of baby backs by 3 every day. He is one of the 2 places that I considered to make ribs better than mine. The Shed is better because they never run out of baby backs. Something I try not to do.

So I can’t stray too far.

Betty read this thread the other day and mentioned it to me.

If we come, we get to drive to Amarillo first, 5 h 21 min (343 miles) . Then coming home, it is 17 h 30 min (1,150 miles) from Laughlin, NV. to our house. That makes for a long trip for two 914s without co-drivers. Got to take two days. And the 4.0 engine doesn't get the best mileage either.

Steve - Fabulous. I will see you in Colorado Springs for the Treffen. I sent you a PM with my phone number.

Oscar - Commitment?!? No one will ever question your commitment to the 914 community. icon22_2.gif You also have your priorities in the proper order. Family first.
I sincerely hope you can join us. Even if only for a day.

Clay & Betty - Please join us in Amarillo. (When has a 914 event ever been closer?) You don't have to make the entire run, start to finish. (In fact, I never expected that anyone would be crazy enough to do the full distance with me.) I will promise you that the drive from Las Vegas to Albuquerque, above and around Santa Fe, will be the best 914 roads on the entire tour. (Not counting the short banzai run into Oatman.) MDB2.gif

Is that serious about starting in St. Louis next year? There's limited opportunity for involvement in such events here in Tulsa (through which, incidentally, Route 66 passes).

I just saw this. Sorry, I don't think its going to happen. We both agree... a 914 loaded up with tools, spares, and luggage is limited fun on the twisty roads.

But it would be fun seeing y'all.

1.) This forum is the place to find information about all future Rallies, Tours, Treffens, Classics, Rambles and other 914 events.

2.) I can assure you that if I am the one planning, we will not be starting in St. Louis. If we are going that far, we are gonna do it proper and drive the additional 300 miles to start in Chicago at the beginning of Route 66.

3.) Don't give up hope. A few months ago nobody would have believed that we would be starting in Amarillo this year.

4.) There is nothing stopping you from organizing a midwest / eastern Route 66 event.

The exact geometric center of the US is a few miles northwest of Lebanon, Kansas. I is in the middle of the Kansas prairie.

The stone marker is the exact center. Considering there are no twisty roads for hundreds of miles, I don't want to waste time going there in a 914. If you find someplace with twisty roads where everyone could meet, I would go.

That’s quite an epic journey in the making! I’d be remiss if I didn’t swing by and say hello since you folks will be within a couple miles of my home. I will probably have started my new job in ABQ around then as well, though I don’t think I’ll have a lot more time, I should at least be home every night instead of on the road every week.

Would be good to see you folks! I’ll check back in before the event.

Was looking forward to it ... haven't been on a run since 2015 - but better safe than sorry.

I guess I'll just have to drive my new wheels locally, and solo for now driving.gif

Maybe mañana ... I vacuumed and cleaned the interior this afternoon. Then ordered some Mobil-1 (0-40W), some K&N oil filter cartridges, a dash cover and a car cover.

Well, I couldn't make this event regardless but now I don't have to deal with FOMO I suppose. Sorry you had to cancel, JP. Looks like I'll have to wait until fall to hook back up with everyone!

Posted by: Gint Mar 25 2020, 10:28 PM

I was going to roll in the Boxster. But they already cancelled our Moab hotel for next weekend, so I was afraid this event was going to be a Covid-19 casualty.

I'm getting so bored working from and never leaving the house. It's been almost 3 weeks for me already because I got a 'regular' viral cold on Monday 3/9. They did the mandatory 'work from home' the following Monday. Haven't been back to work since, and barely past the driveway.

Took the dog out for a joy ride in the 914 today though.

Please take good care of you and yours. We look forward to seeing you, healthy and happy, in Laughlin, Nevada soon.

FYI........June 5th is a Friday.

I will check if the Victorville R-66 museum will be open but beware I wouldn’t leave my car unattended. That area of Victorville is a crime ridden shit hole.
The City has long abandoned the ideal of anything R-66. Old town Victorville is mostly burnt buildings infested by homeless who get dumped off buses from Los Angeles. Also Victorville is home to the largest Federal Prison in the Nation. Every week they drop paroled inmates off across the street. Barstow is no better.

A good scenic drive is from Barstow along National Trails Hwy “R-66” into Victorville then get back on the freeway. Also if you are not heading down the Cajon Pass by 3pm expect bumper to bumper traffic.

If you get off the 15 at Cleghorn to continue the old 66 Hwy. do not stop for pics or to rest. That entire area is known as a pick up spot for guys who like guys. They hide in the bushes waiting for cars to stop then hit you up.

Sorry to burst your bubble but my 30 plus years as a Firefighter in Victorville warns you to stay away from the old town area. Go to Oscars and enjoy.

Thanks @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=19195 , I fixed the date.
I have always avoided Victorville and only ever stopped in Barstow to piss. I guess that section of Route 66 will be drive by only. Thanks for the heads up.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=9964 I didn't expect that the museum would be open, but I thought it sounded good.
Thanks for the offer, I am staying at Oscar's Hacienda on Friday night and then heading home after the rally.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=20670 I accidentally took the wrong exit once and found myself in East St. Louis.
It was every bit as lovely as Coondog's description of Victorville.

I need you three plus @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=21596 , Oscar and Lawrence to give me your size so I can make sure you get a shirt, since you were signed up for the original event.

24 Hour Notice. The 2020 Route 66 Classic is about to start. flag.gif
I have been informed by the *official* Route 66 Competition Committee that my revised Covid plan of Barstow to Victorville is insufficient mileage (50) due to the limited number (1) of cars registered. Therefore . . . . The route has been extended. driving.gif

New Plan:
Start near Laughlin. (where the original event was scheduled to end)
9:14 AM - Pick up Route 66 from Highway 95.
The tour will visit Goffs, Essex, Amboy, Bagdad. Ludlow, Newberry Springs and Daggett before arriving in Barstow for lunch. chowtime.gif
After 200 miles of lonely road, the drive to Victorville will surely seem much more exciting.
