I figured that since we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of our beloved 914 all year in 2020.
And since the Route 66 Classic is the kick off for the event season.
We really ought to set the proper tone and start with something epic!
How about a 914 mile, 5.0 day, 4 night, 3 time zone, 5 state, traveling party.
Are you with me?

Thursday, May 7th. I'm going home with a memory that will last the rest of my life.
We will start at Winslow,AZ,,such a fine sight to see...I know half assed butt...
John: We can drive together to Amarillo from Colorado Springs? I may only go as far as Las Vegas and head for home (or having never been to Petrified Forest National Park...). I'll be in the Cayenne though.
If in Oatman visit this bar .....
and try to find this one dollar bill
Safe journey guys and watch out for the burro's
krgds
DAx
I'm thinking about doing the Monday and Tuesday portions... maybe wednesday
Woohoo!
I'll be in for some of it at the least
I'll see you in Vegas
Actually thinking the Hotel before or after. Texas is a bit too far for my old ass.
Also assuming my 914 is good to go.... so place your bets
You guys have fun and don't do anything that I wouldn't.
Trying for T/W
Could make this happen with a Winslow Arz. start........
Tucumcari.
Mr. D's in Kingman.
Quickly Googles "mileage - San Clemente, Ca to Amarillo, Tx."
(1,091 miles)
Damn.
Lawrence. Take advantage of it this year when it's so close.
Next year we start in St. Louis.
Of course there will be event shirts this year. (It's a tradition.)
However, things will be a bit different this time.
Shirts will be FREE!
The catch is that there will be only 10 shirts produced.
They will be awarded to the first 9 people to join the tour.
(Size request will be accepted to skew my order.) Red or Black.
When traveling across the country I use 40 and stop in Amarillo at Tyler's. He runs out of baby backs by 3 every day. He is one of the 2 places that I considered to make ribs better than mine. The Shed is better because they never run out of baby backs. Something I try not to do.
John-
I’m following this thread, but can’t commit to attending right now.
Time will tell.
My 2 yr old grandson remains in treatment battling Leukemia. (Cancer sucks!!!)
So I can’t stray too far.
Thanks for stepping up and heading RT66 this year.
Oscar
Steve - Fabulous. I will see you in Colorado Springs for the Treffen. I sent you a PM with my phone number.
Oscar - Commitment?!? No one will ever question your commitment to the 914 community. You also have your priorities in the proper order. Family first.
I sincerely hope you can join us. Even if only for a day.
Clay & Betty - Please join us in Amarillo. (When has a 914 event ever been closer?) You don't have to make the entire run, start to finish. (In fact, I never expected that anyone would be crazy enough to do the full distance with me.) I will promise you that the drive from Las Vegas to Albuquerque, above and around Santa Fe, will be the best 914 roads on the entire tour. (Not counting the short banzai run into Oatman.)
Winslow.
Shirt art.
90 Day Notice
Make your hotel reservations now. (Especially La Posada.)
Don't miss out on all the fun.
Will join in at Albuquerque Monday evening.
We did a drive up to Winslow late last summer from Scottsdale with a small group and ate at the La Posada. Definitely recommended...
Will try and come up at least for the day from Winslow to Flagg- the 5th is my birthday so it can be a present to myself...
Hotels booked for 4th, 5th, and 6th. Probably drive to Phoenix area on the 3rd, then to Rio Rancho on the 4th.
I'm tentative ...
I'd probably head up to my place in Payson for a couple days, then run up to Winslow on Tuesday, May 5th.
La Posada hotel. 928-289-4366. @$130.

Changed to join the rabble in Winslow
I kinda need an excuse to get away from work.
I’m having mechanical issues still
Need a day off from work or two to get some traction
Google tells me it is 395.6 miles from Tulsa to St. Louis and only 365.4 miles to Amarillo.
I’m just north of STL in IL along Route 66. Please let me know where to find more info about next years event starting in STL
Thanks. Steve B.
(I blame @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=17068 , he is the instigator that got me in this mess.)
1.) This forum is the place to find information about all future Rallies, Tours, Treffens, Classics, Rambles and other 914 events.
2.) I can assure you that if I am the one planning, we will not be starting in St. Louis. If we are going that far, we are gonna do it proper and drive the additional 300 miles to start in Chicago at the beginning of Route 66.
3.) Don't give up hope. A few months ago nobody would have believed that we would be starting in Amarillo this year.
4.) There is nothing stopping you from organizing a midwest / eastern Route 66 event.
I'm always in trouble for sumthin........
Adrian, Texas. We will be there before noon on Monday.
Right now I'm in Kerrville, TX having just finished driving all three of the twisted sisters. I've briefly looked into starting in Chicago and arriving in LA, and then returning (to Saint Louis). Not sure if it will happen in 2021, might be the following year.
That’s quite an epic journey in the making! I’d be remiss if I didn’t swing by and say hello since you folks will be within a couple miles of my home. I will probably have started my new job in ABQ around then as well, though I don’t think I’ll have a lot more time, I should at least be home every night instead of on the road every week.
Would be good to see you folks! I’ll check back in before the event.
- Jon (aka Nelson)
60 Day Notice
It is not to late to join the party and make your reservations.
Please check the attendance list on the first page for accuracy and let me know if corrections or changes are needed.
I never actually said I was going... And probably can't. But the desire is there. I'd much rather hang out with you monkeys than work. That whiner Clay isn't coming is he?
Whaddya drivin John?
Maybe I'll can that other vacation idea and ...
With the cancellation of the PCA Treffen in Colorado Springs, I will not be attending Route 66 this year either. Hopefully we'll be back to somewhat normal next year. I still have WCR on the calendar.
The Route 66 Classic has been CANCELED due to CORONAVIRUS.

Ain't nothing but a thang, John. Right now I'm hoping for WCR or Red Rocks; or both!

So sorry to hear.
Fusch, Falcon, Phyque I can't think of any more ways to say it...
I was hoping to be able to bust out of here and go talk to some real teeners. There are few far between here and we don't gather.
Now that I think about it I could probably change that.
So I'm with Kent now and eating popcorn till fall.
Whatta bummer. I miss y'all! Well JP, now you have a good plan for next year Route 66. Everyone stay healthy!
Was looking forward to it ... haven't been on a run since 2015 - but better safe than sorry.
I guess I'll just have to drive my new wheels locally, and solo for now
Welcome to the fold Mark.
09. 987.2?
We might need a Route66 drive to Red Rock combo event
Just for you, John ( @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=481 )
Last night ... clean, lean and parked behind 'Eileen' ...
Since I purchased it during the virus outbreak, maybe I should name it 'COVID'
Only bummer - I'm not planning to register it in CA and it looks like I won't be able to get the paperwork to ADOT in AZ real soon ...
Also ... thinking I'm gonna ditch the side stripes ... at least the ones ahead of the front wheels
Thanks Mark.
You have always been a team player.
(Show us your first attempt without the rag on the reflective pylon. )
My God, John ... you're so hard to please
The pylon is there to keep the wife from backing into any more vehicles ...
It's raining cats & dogs for the next few days here, so don't expect anything real soon
Well, I couldn't make this event regardless but now I don't have to deal with FOMO I suppose. Sorry you had to cancel, JP. Looks like I'll have to wait until fall to hook back up with everyone!
I was going to roll in the Boxster. But they already cancelled our Moab hotel for next weekend, so I was afraid this event was going to be a Covid-19 casualty.
I'm getting so bored working from and never leaving the house. It's been almost 3 weeks for me already because I got a 'regular' viral cold on Monday 3/9. They did the mandatory 'work from home' the following Monday. Haven't been back to work since, and barely past the driveway.
Took the dog out for a joy ride in the 914 today though.
I called La Posada and Riverside Resort to cancel my reservations back on March 24th. The gal I spoke with told me that they would be crediting the $ back to my CC
The gal I spoke with at the Riverside on the same day told me that they were closed until sometime in April and that I'd have to call back and speak with the GM after they open again
Received an email reply from the Riverside Resort on Friday:
"As requested, today, the reservation detailed below has been cancelled and $60.86 has been refunded to the xxxxx credit card on file. Depending on the banking institution, the credit may take 5 to 10 business days to appear.
Please take good care of you and yours. We look forward to seeing you, healthy and happy, in Laughlin, Nevada soon.
Best regards,
Your Friends at the Riverside Resort"

When I googled the Museum it said "Temporarily closed"! But come on down John. We'll put you up for the evening and join the group drive which happens to be in my backyard.
I think I'll pass...maybe drive over to East St. Louis instead
Thanks @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=19195 , I fixed the date.
I have always avoided Victorville and only ever stopped in Barstow to piss. I guess that section of Route 66 will be drive by only. Thanks for the heads up.
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=9964 I didn't expect that the museum would be open, but I thought it sounded good.
Thanks for the offer, I am staying at Oscar's Hacienda on Friday night and then heading home after the rally.
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=20670 I accidentally took the wrong exit once and found myself in East St. Louis.
It was every bit as lovely as Coondog's description of Victorville.
I need you three plus @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=21596 , Oscar and Lawrence to give me your size so I can make sure you get a shirt, since you were signed up for the original event.

Since I live close to one of the old Route 66 roads thru STL, I'll drive it on my way to East St. Louis
I am going to pick a spot along 371 where some Desert Rats will join you. 3 possibly 4 of us. coming from Coachella Valley.
I thought there used to be a glider airport on that road but now I cannot find it.
I'm a Large on the shirt.....Thanks John!!!
Blame me for this years' Route 66, I love it!
We stopped off in East St. Louis a few years back in a Ryder truck towing a car on a trailer, the locals looked at us and started to drool.
Needless to say we kept a right on a rollin'.........

XL for 914Toy, thanks.
24 Hour Notice. The 2020 Route 66 Classic is about to start.
I have been informed by the *official* Route 66 Competition Committee that my revised Covid plan of Barstow to Victorville is insufficient mileage (50) due to the limited number (1) of cars registered. Therefore . . . . The route has been extended.
New Plan:
Start near Laughlin. (where the original event was scheduled to end)
9:14 AM - Pick up Route 66 from Highway 95.
The tour will visit Goffs, Essex, Amboy, Bagdad. Ludlow, Newberry Springs and Daggett before arriving in Barstow for lunch.
After 200 miles of lonely road, the drive to Victorville will surely seem much more exciting.
Have fun folks! I have been on 914World hiatus and didn't notice that things were back up and running. If I had had my wits about me I would have had a better chance to drive that far. Hope it works well.
Warren
Have fun John, see you tomorrow!!
Needles.
Keep the photos coming John...you always seem to find cool backdrops
Oscar
After being rejected twice I decided to skip Amboy this time and pick up Route 66 again before Lodlow.

Again.
Amboy.
If I could have made it to Amboy, this is what it looks like.

Been in the same family forever. Ate there many times when I was a Victorville Firefighter. Parked the engine in the back so the Chief wouldn’t see us.
The End. Thanks for watching.
Be Safe and hope to see you for next years Route 66 Classic.
Thanks for the virtual ride along, John
Sorry we're gonna miss hanging out - maybe something later in the year when things slow down around here
Well that was fun. Great to see old friends and new as well. Thx are in order for Greg aka CoonDog. Though the skies were ominous we never saw a drop of water from Temecula and on. There were no breakdowns (that I know of) so the event was obviously ordained by the 914 Gods. Thx again Greg and we'll see ya'll at the GnR next.
Thanks for coming John! Thank you also for the shirt!
Stay safe and for sure you are still on ur way home!
Thanks to @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=19195 for organizing the run.
Great to see old friends and make new acquaintances.

Nice John, I wish I could have joined you for that one, that is a wonderful way to start the Rally and a beautiful reason to have a Route 66.
Thank you John for the shirt. I owe you something, although you didn't want money.
Your shirt designs are always clever and wearable! Good to see you again!
