Hi,
I am replacing ALL of the rubber in our '74 2.0. All is going well though the TARGA pieces are a bear.
In the frunk the seal that goes around the entire frunk will not allow the lid to close all the way without bending the lid!!!
Seems that it is too tall? The old rubber though beat up, fits and allows the lid to close fine.
I have a note into 914Rubber, but I thought I would ask the team here if this is a common problem?
THANK YOU

First off, the divider seal is backwards.
Does the frunk close well with it not installed?
I think 914r first seal was a generic piece and the bead was too tall. IIRC somebody else had that problem and it took someone getting in the frunk to see it.
Door and trunk fit in general is a common issue with new seals, same issue with the Alfas after replacing seals and is a an ongoing conversation with other communities as well.
Doesn’t NOT mean it should be like this however.
I had the same issue when I first replaced the seals had to reorder a different set from 914rubber the first set came too tall. The new set looks like this.
Front
Rear
The original rear had a long rubber flange and it was the same profile for front and rear you can see they are different now and may not be fully stock, but the frunk and trunk close correctly now. 914Rubber said they had some stock that was shorter than others
IIRC, Mark said the way to tell the early and late gaskets apart was to look for a step in the underside profile at the rear corners near the hinge. I don't remember if it was on the fender or cowl side but know that i was just about to install mine and ran out to check and was able to verify I had the correct seal. it went in without any trouble.
Correct.
The 1st ones we sold were A generic.
The ones we made were molded. Even factory glued, requiring a hard rubber corner.
So yes the new ones are much better.
*************UPDATE***********
Turns out my son installed the Trunk rubber in the Frunk, we sorted this out and things are now working
QUESTION:
Since there are no installation instructions, is it customary to install these with some glue to hold things in place? SPECIFICALLY, the gasket that surrounds the FRUNK????
THANK YOU TEENERS!
I was advised not to install them with any glue because it would trap water under the seal and over time this would rust out the metal tray the frunk seal fits into.
3M weatherstrip adhesive. Follow the directions. Light coat on both sides. Tack up and install.
Right or Wrong, I am also in the "No Glue" camp.
At first it would rise up out of the trough, but over time it settled in place.
I like the ability to remove and wipe under the seal.
Great advice, thank you!
