In the past we registered as a group, and were able to bunch the 914 spaces together. I guess with individual online registration we can’t do that anymore?

Its always been individual registration.
What we would do is register a block. But PCA would not usually give us the passes that were commensurate with the amount of spaces we bought that way. So instead we would buy spaces 1 by 1 to get the tickets out to all the people that bought them.

I got REALLY tired of dealing with it, and I'm always glad when someone steps up to organize the event.

I understand. So is anyone organizing it this year?

Posted by: mepstein Jan 21 2020, 08:02 PM

I'm not doing it this year but did 4 or 5 years of the group buy. I used to go to a copy place and copy the letter and parking pass that they sent me so everyone who paid for space could get in. They used to send me one letter and one parking pass, even when I purchased 16 spots. Color copier fixed that but it's still a pain since they send out the passes a week before and then I had to get them to the 914 guys quickly.

There are a lot more empty spaces every year but it's still a fun day to catch up with everyone.

As far as I recall by doing it that way it allowed us to have spaces together, right? If so, I’d be happy to do it this year.

Let's see how many people are interested this year. If you would like a space in a "914 group," so to speak, can you let me know. We can see if there is interest, and if there is, I would be happy to handle getting them reserved in a group.

I'm registered to sell parts for the first time (mostly 911), and will bring the 914-6 for display in the parking area. From what I understand parking passes are purchased onsite (unless a group buy is done).

What's the best hotel to stay at? Stayed at the 'host hotel' before but few others did.

You should get a parking pass included with your registered spot.
I just go online and stay at a comfort inn or similar.

Thanks. Need that parking spot for my truck and trailer, but parking in the "Porsche only" area will be additional cost for the 914. Stayed at the 'Quality Inn' for 2017, will check elsewhere.

I still want to know what was in the gas can.

Posted by: TonyA Jan 22 2020, 10:02 AM

Had a swig out of that gas can two years ago in the parking lot at the swap meet because I was at another hotel. If I stayed at the same hotel I probably would not have made it to the meet.

Posted by: rgolia Jan 22 2020, 11:33 AM

I had a swig a few years ago. Terrible, tasted like grape juice with moonshine. I hope the gasoline after taste was all in my head. barf.gif

The best deal is the Econo Lodge right in the middle of Hershey on Lucy St. normally about half the Comfort Inn on Mae St.
Currently at $112 per night.

I should be going again this year. Went for a few years in a row, got enough parts to rebuild my 74 2.0 and didn't go back until last year. Not as many 914 parts as there used to be but that could also come with time. May bring the car down, not sure but still hope to meet some of you.

I've gone the last 8 years and had a great time but I just decided to skip this year. I've started riding my bike again and my friends convinced me to sign up for a 100K gravel race. The start is only 2 miles from my house and I know a lot of the trails so...
Unfortunately, the same day as Hershey.

Have fun and find good deals.

Road, Mountain, Track, Cross and now Gravel. I'm just repurposing the cross bike with tubeless clinchers. It has cantilevers vs disk brakes but I'll make it work.
We are lucky to live 6 miles from Fair Hill MD. 6 thousand acre natural game preserve with about 120 miles of singletrack trails.

I just read that Disney world is closing on the 16th. I have a feeling Hershey will announce by Monday the park will not open until further notice.

Posted by: VaccaRabite Mar 13 2020, 06:17 AM

Everywhere that is closing is closing for 2 weeks or through April 1st.
Yes that could get extended. But Hershey is the end of April. For the moment I'd not worry too much about it, and see where things are a few weeks from now.

I will be there, I'm always there, usually first in line, literally! But even if the event goes on it will be a muted affair. Much of the Porsche population is of the gray hair variety, the ones who are most vulnerable among us, so I think they will sit this one out.

For example, will Hershey really be the same without my 77 year old mother working the booth?

I would almost bet that they are going to close this, but they shouldn't. It's an open air event where "social distancing" can be followed. But more than that, maintaining a bit of normalcy is a really good thing in a very un-normal world right now.

Hershey hasn’t been canceled yet because it’s a relatively small function compared to NBA, MLB, etc but it’s just a matter of time. Everything in Philadelphia and the surrounding area is canceled or getting canceled. If the Hershey Park people don’t do it, the state government will.

“- A number of U.S. states and cities have announced the closures of bars, restaurants, gyms and movie theaters to limit crowds. The Center for Disease Control recommended no gatherings of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks.”

I was told last night to shut down one of my construction sites until further notice at least a month they said.

The 2020 Hershey swap meet has been cancelled.

Note from Steve Limbert, the local PCA President:

“A quick note to let you and all 914 guys know that the BoD of the Central Pa region of the PCA have canceled the swap for 2020! It was a unanimous decision and after checking with Hershey they do not have dates available for the remainder of this year.”

Kind of expected this would come to be.

That's a shame. It's the prudent thing to do I guess.

Makes the July get together that much more of a highlight. Hopefully this is a distant memory by then.

The feeling in the medical world, is best case scenario, 4-6 months before things can start to open and life can move on.

That’s not just me reading CDC, WHO websites but what the head of infectious disease at a major hospital told my wife.

Save your stuff for the Stoddard meet and Ski Roundtop.

Started the process of getting a refund on my Non-refundable room reservation.

I'm retired.. I have plenty of time to fight this battle. happy11.gif

I recently fought it out with Choice Hotels on a night they charged me for. I booked the room via the mobil site on my phone, checked the box that I needed a Pet Friendly hotel since the hua-hua's travel with me. I booked the room. The hotel called me the day I was supposed to go there and said don't bring a dog there, they no like dogs. I said ok, booked another hotel, then got charged for the first night as a "no show". I fought it out with Choice Hotels corp. and got a check from them refunding my night, but it wasn't easy.

I had suggested a couple of years ago to Steve Limbert to maybe do a join swap meet and car show with the Philly region and maybe even the NJ Region at the conference center in Oaks Pa
It can be done inside and out plenty of room
Close to Pa turnpike & Route 76

It slants heavy to 356 because of Stoddard but 914 stuff is there. I know Garold has come a couple times, it's a good swap and will probably be great this year if it happens.

I doubt we will have any events this year.
