914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 2.0 Exhaust bolt

Posted by: brian minson Feb 21 2020, 09:39 AM

I have noticed a exhaust leak on my dual 44 2.0 motor, when I went to re-torque the bolts and found one of the studs on cylinder #2 would just spin and spin and spin...

Any suggestions on fixing this?

If you’re careful you can fix it without dropping the engine.
Don’t over torque the others or you’ll be fixing them too.

If it didn't fall out it might already be a step-stud...

I used 16 ft lbs for my exhaust manifold to head bolts.

This totally sucks (happened to me last week).
I fixed it with Helicoils, even though Treated inserts might be better.
Easy fix with car on jackstands (wear safety goggles).

Make sure to anneal the new copper gaskets. It will make them much softer and easier to seal with less torque.

Where can I pick one of these 8/9 studs up at?
