914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Since my /6 is all apart

Posted by: michel richard Jul 5 2005, 07:53 PM

One of the things that's different is the engine mount. Had a few minutes this evening, and I'd never really seen how the mount is put together on an original /6, so I shot a bunch of pictures.
Hope people feel this is good use of bandwidth.

First, the bulkhead

The engine mount assembly, out of the car

The nose cone. This is the part that bolts to the engine.

The rubber mount. It's pretty big. It bolts to the bulkhead.

And the retainer, in which the retaining bolt goes. AKA the Jesus nut.

This is how it fits in the car. Note that in this and the following pictures, the bolt is not screwed in all the way.

Holes are not lined-up either. Side view.

These four holes mount to the six cylinder engine. An original six car doesn't have the two mount holes welded to either side of the engine bay. The motor mounts here, center of the engine bay.

This gets me thinking.. would it be a good idea or a bad idea to mount a V8 conversion engine this way? Obviously not right there because the crank ends up there. But maybe 2 mounts, one on each side of the front crank pulley. I guess belt interference could be a problem. Just thinking out loud here.

Good score Michel ! boldblue.gif

Thanks for documenting the engine mount.

I've been busy lately with my wife giving birth to our first boy, but my three weeks of vacation also gave me time to transport my parts (and soon my car) back to my new house.
Can't wait to get working on mine!

I'll be watching for your build thread, best of luck !
