I am looking for engine stand options.
So the P201 (engine yoke) shaft diameter is 60mm and I am here to see if anybody knows of engine stand options.
In the past, I worked with custom made stands and on some occasions I worked with the flimsy Harbor freight version. Those I'd like to exclude...
What I'm looking for are engine stands, preferably in black, grey or silver, two legs, and a
a 60mm/2 3/8" - 2 1/2" yoke receiver.
Any help is appreciated. Show me what you got!
On the samba there's a guy that makes beefed up 3 and 4 arm versions.
All but one of my adapters are shop built. I have a couple of the HF cheap 600lb stands but I only use them for T1 and T4. I almost tipped over a /6 on one of these stands.
I have a repro P201 I think made by SIR and I use the Princess Auto 2000lbs folding legs 6 wheel stand, harbor freight likely sells the same stand. I have two of these stands. Only issue is the engine half doesn't sit level, it sits nose high, so I ended up cutting and bending the stands main tube just below the receiver.
Folds for storage and my 660lb lift table cart fit's between the legs. I can fully kit out a 996 engine with exhaust, which is 500lbs and almost 6 foot wide and I can roll it around with ease.

I bought two from the local O'reilly auto parts. They are made by GM and is designed to hold big block Chevys. They work really well, stable and not overloaded, even with the 4.0 on it. One yoke is the standard P201, the other was a steel half ring that bolts the the yoke that came with the engine stand. The second one works well, but there is not enough clearance to install the flywheel while it is on the stand.

Just have one made. I went to Jerry Woods/Bruce Anderson engine building class fifteen years ago and asked Jerry if I could copy the engine stands they had (answer yes). So came home and had three made for myself and two buddies. Heavy duty, easily holds a 930 engine, nice drip pan design. still have mine today.
If people are interested, I will take better pictures and measure the tubing and overall size to replicate. I would not weld one of these up unless you are a Pro, I'm not so I had them done by a professional.
My P201 fits the standard 4-wheel Harbor Fright stands.

I have one factory stand, it is a thing of art. I love it, need to clean it up, but it hs an engine on it right now.
But I love this design with the trip pan.
Need to make one of these, and make it so it folds down.

In looking at the dimensions I don't see any angle built into the vertical support? Every engine stand I have had has a rear-ward sweep to the vertical support. Does anyone now why this is?
Is your vertical support at an angle greater than 90* to the legs?
Is there anything different that you would do. I am looking to also utilize this for a turbo motor which is slightly heavier than a 912/914 motor.
This is at 97 deg. or 7 deg back from 90. And being this in the tool of choice for large 911/930 used by Jerry Woods it should work. Mark
Ok with the stand but where should I buy the engine yoke?
Don't know, I just stumble into them from time to time.
And yes I have thought about making a drip tray, maybe I will get around to it now, but maybe not. I am busier right now than I was with "normal" work.
Hopefully it settles down a bit, and I can get back into the shop and build some more stuff.
That custom made stand is pretty slick, and the drip tray is a very nice feature. But I like what Mark said about his allowing the hydraulic cart to fit inside the stand feet. I've got the cheap HF model. I like it. I like my hydraulic cart. What I don't like is the gymnastics I have to go to so I can marry up the engine on cart with the engine stand.

I will look in the next couple of days. I may have an extra yoke. I know of one I have that I can sell. I had my 930 motor on it fully dressed. It is not the Porsche tool, rather is the tool made by the person referenced by Morrie.
