914World.com _ 914World Garage _ CGT Gemballa ...one less in the herd

Posted by: Maltese Falcon Apr 7 2020, 05:46 PM

In NYC earlier today, you'll see this all over instagram, YouTube, other feeds. Driver (Ben) loses it on city streets, takes out a parked delivery van, obliterates the CGT...then tries to leave the scene while all of the fluids pour out of the carrera, and c/f panels go flying off of the car ! Glad no one was hurt. He was well know for tree and light-pole wrap arounds here in the hills of L.A. Looks like NYC is his habitat of late.

Saw that, that was nuts. Now he gets to sit in the locker for a while and figure out if it was worth it...Sad yet another CGT bites the dust...

Not just a cgt, tuned + styled by Gemballa, the Mirage model. I think that with this style of roof scoop...that the roof no longer detaches ; thoughts ¿
Anyhow when he lived around here...he wrapped his custom bi-turbo Aventador around a light pole about 1/2 block from his rental home. I think that his Veyron (spl? ) survived his ownership smile.gif

How does someone like that with that kind of history get to continue to drive?

Money doesn't make people happy (or able to become a skilled driver). Although, it does make certain problems disappear. shades.gif

The Ferrari Factory rebuilt that infamous Red (Enzo or F40, I forgot) car that split in 1/2 on PCH years ago...the rich guy and his story "German friend" that was the driver and ran off into the mountains biggrin.gif
Howard (RIP) went to the scene the next day and grabbed a piece of heater hose , put it in a decanter box and sold it on eBay ...caused some raised eyebrows !
When the factory finished the car , it retained the oe VIN, but the new owner had it finished in black.
With this Mirage cgt, might be tricky to source parts, as Uwe Gemballa is no longer with us, but I'm sure with an open check Porsche could right this car aktion035.gif

NYC streets are virtually empty these days.
Many streets are beat up and bumpy.
Idiotic behavior plus massive horsepower.

Gemballa made a bunch of gaudy 911 based cars way back.
This car looks ......looked beautiful.

No airbags ?

Posted by: falcor75 Apr 8 2020, 05:57 AM

Just the fact that he tried to escape the scene of the accident should have him handcuffed as soon as he stepped out of the vehicle?

They are hard enough to drive before you crash em

As i understand it clutch is extremly difficult to properly manipulate when trying to control all that power.

Driver aids are permanently turned off.
And visibility doesn't look to great either.

But please set me straight here .

No body buys these cars !

All that super high end stuff is leased .

So its not like you just crashed youre own car .
But a reallllly nice rental ?

Lots of people buy these and other supercars. Lots.
Most of them are tucked away and the owners don’t care about YouTube or even letting anyone but their close friends know what they have.
I saw one collection that blew me away. The owner drives a Ford Explorer for day to day.

When ever you strap in to street legal racecars

You would assume their is some kinda of acknowledgement of risk.

Like a test pilot taking up a hot plane

...a small chunk of (say 3") 2 by 4 rem, zip tied under the go-pedal of of his last 3 wrecks might have prevented these disasters. At this point...makes one wonder if he carries his own high value bond to self-insure the cars ¿

Money doesn't buy brains, talent or good taste as they say... (Though this guy may be OK in the taste department.)

It's scary that right now with the empty roads/freeways all the same terrible drivers (sometimes in terrible, broken cars) who normally crawl along at 5-10-15mph are now flying down the 101 and 405 doing 90. I see very little LEO presence too.

Drivers of Porsche sports cars are now begging for more LEO's on the road to enforce speed limits on empty roads? av-943.gif

He was explaining about being dive bombed by pigeons and had to get down the street (hastily)... to be at his detailing appointment just over there in ground floor of the Skyscraper ¿ confused24.gif

His runs around in the blue car BH and WEHO were just like this on the daily. One time he punched it from a light on Sunset heading west from Crescent Hts bl. After 1 block he was in a gradual left downhill sweeper (but off camber) and almost lost it slideways into the Pink Taco eatery.
That small stretch of Sunset is awesome though during the L.A. Marathon when the ADA Competition is under way. Their race prepped " Wheelchairs" are set up with like 2.5° neg camber. When they fly through that turn it's Committed !
