914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Youngest Teeners?

Posted by: Nojoah May 22 2020, 12:16 PM

Hey everyone,

I'm interested to see if we have any younger members here? As I am 16 I'd like to petition as the youngest member? Maybe? Maybe not? smilie_pokal.gif

Anyone younger than 16 can't be driving in most states, although I seem to recall that some states allow a learner permit at 15 when accompanied by a licensed driver. What's the fun in owning a 'teener if you can't drive it? confused24.gif

Way back in this groups infancy there was a very active young member here named @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3258 . locust.gif
IIRC he was 14 at the time. (So he has got to be pushing 30 now.) He was from the South East somewhere.
He and his dad even flew out to attend a West Coast Ramble event in Oregon.
He kept buying these rusty, rusty shells. This group eventually took up a collection and sent him a clean California tub. locust.gif

Well my victory was short lived. Great to know that there are some other young people interested in these cars though. Definitely hard on a student budget but so worth it.

And here I was thinking to myself "Well, I'm probably pretty close to being one of the younger folks here, since I'm pretty young."

And then I remembered I'm 33. dry.gif I still to this day feel like I'm barely over 18.

I think my son reads the forum sometimes he is 17. Him and his sister bought the bug to restore when they were 14. They helped stripping the paint and some of the body work on the 914.

Well I always knew what I wanted. Saved for a long time and worked full time every summer. Managed to find a solid car locally for a fair price and I bought it. Thank you though!

Nope, math is backwards. A 9 year old dog would be 63 people years old....

My 18 year old son is member teenhulk here, unfortunately his teen is on the back burner as he's spending his coin on his Audi coupe and Cobalt SS.
At his age I was lucky to have one car.

MattyLite's '74 914 Craiglist score out of San Ramon at 15 years old, and about 6 months later started POC racing (had the Calif learners permit).
We were constantly tweaking the stock 2.0L for a little more juice (keeping withing the GCR book). Matt honed his racing skills working with the master John Williamson...started turning hot lap times driving.gif
He's my partner in all things mechanical !

Hello 914 World!
We are new here. It is clear that this is the best space for information on 914 projects. I was so excited to learn that this forum exists.
I am Frances. I run a YouTube channel called TINKERGINEERING
Tinkergineering is all about my journey in tinkering. Joy is what this gives me. Learning to share this joy has become my purpose. For my next project, I want to solve just a minor issue for myself. On September 16th. 2024, I will turn 16. This Winter I bought my first car, a 1976 Porsche 914 with the money I earned from picking the grapefruit tree at my house. This is my favorite car of all time and I will be converting it to electric! My main goal is to show other eleven-year-old girls how to take action in what they believe in. From bumpers to batteries I got my work cut out for me.
Who knows, maybe there is another kid out there who could gain inspiration for their dreams from this project. That is my purpose, to pay it forward.

I’m Frances.
I'm 11 years old.
Together my dad and I write and read these posts. (-dad- Daniel, says hi and thanks for the support)

Marc that's funny you mention that ! The Mulholland stuff is all in my past (campfire stories), and brought Matt into the POC early on . There is enough to cope with on a track when handling at 100+mph. The curvy roads around home are left to the bicyclists, joggers and normal / abnormal traffic. He's spent many a late night helping (with tow trucks) friends get their cars out of canyons...so that's not his territory.

I was called a juvenile delinquent in uniform by an Ex CEO

"George Bagley concedes that calling Horizon Air pilots "juvenile delinquents in uniform" was impolitic - especially since he is the Seattle airline's president."
