914World.com _ 914World Garage _ What year is the wiring harness?

Posted by: Jett May 25 2020, 09:43 AM

Does anyone know what year this harness is for?

Likely not possible to tell without a part number.

There was not a significant difference among the years.

Spendy money, but a nice find.

The seller also has a set of NOS hubcaps for a 356 in the boxes.

I am hoping Jeff can tell what the harness is for... they have two

I would buy it in a second if I knew it was an early harness.

What's the difference between early and late?

What's the difference between early and late?

Lots of small differences in every year but early didn’t have seat belt interlock or center console. Different plugs for steering harness.

Hell for that price just buy, that is cheap.

Posted by: windforfun May 25 2020, 02:20 PM

Could be a Pandora's Box if it's not what you need. Go for it if your old harness is that bad.

I think it is for a '70. In the area of the fuse box relay sockets there are two double red wires with ring connectors. These went to the plastic junction block near the fuse box that was only used thru '72. Near the forward part of the harness is a 12 pole connector housing used only in '70. The 12 pole connector doesn't seem quite seem to be in the right place but it may just be the way the harness is laid out. In '71 this was changed to a 14 pole connector and '72 and up had flat connectors for the switches on the column.

If I wasn't paring down my parts hoard, I'd buy it. It's a better investment than the market.

I bought one of these for my 71 restomod project.
It wasn't cheap, but it was NOS and in very nice shape.
There were a couple of misplaced wires in one of the connectors that I had to rearrange.

Very nice wiring harnesses will tend to be expensive.
There is a lot that goes into them.
All the color coded (and striped) wiring that is so hard to find.
Specialty connectors, etc.

I've been asked about four times in the last 12 months if I can make a chassis harness, and my answer is NO! I wish I could, but @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=18263 has it nailed

I do appreciate you pointing it out to me. I've wanted one for a while. I don't care too much which year as long as it's early. It's going to get a 914-6 ignition so the steering connection wasn't important.

Adding to this discord, does anyone know where to purchase the 2-housings (12 pin) needed for the steering column to harness connection? I have the pins, wires, and components, but need the housings.

Showed up today. Harness feels like it was made yesterday. Wires are all soft and flexible.

Niklas

I'm pretty sure there is a couple differences between 72-73, the big one being the seat belt circuit.

There are many differences in the different harnesses including european ones
