914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Masks /covers IN PLAID and hound's tooth $10

Posted by: Mikey914 May 29 2020, 06:13 PM

Ok, One of the things I've been working on are mask coverings. There are 2 options
1- N95 cover
2 -PM2.5 cover
They are sewn slightly differently. The N95 has more of a point to it.
These are covers for the filters. I can get the N95 masks as shown at $5 each and the PM2.5 @$1 each They are nit included unless you want them. You may be able to buy in bulk at a better price, I'm adding nothing to the cost.

The coverings are $10 each and will be made to order.
Your options are the
Hounds tooth in

Black and white
Black and blue
Black and yellow
Black and red
May do some black and green if there is demand

Also I have the plaids as shown. May be limited on some quantities of different colors
1st version is the PM2.5 shown in red houndstooth

Just let me know which version you want and the color.

Don't start shit again brother.

Damn things are required at my work. I am not a fan, but my job is for your safety so I will abide.

Masks are not to protect you, it is to protect you from being an idiot and infecting others.

Please do not kill some folk for your stubbornness.

Wearing a mask to prevent your phlegm from possibly infecting others is a sign of respect. And, really is it that much of a burden?

I will argue my thoughts on this subject as much as you want. I have traveled over 10 thousand miles since this crap happened. I will not argue it here.

San Diego county to east bumfuck Maine. Big difference.

I like it.

Is it hard to breadth when using it? I am assuming the material is thicker than a regular cloth mask? And please let us know if it’s washable.

Thanks and stay safe

Posted by: Mikey914 May 30 2020, 01:06 AM

Material is surprisingly easy to breath through for as thick as it is. The mask material is what makes it harder to breath.
Consider it a fashion accessory. If you HAVE to wear one, why not make it something different.
BTW like the silhouette one.

If it is washable, I would like plaid #45 and sawtooth red and black please. For option 2. 2 filters to start.

I’ve been buying items once a week now. What’s in store for next week? biggrin.gif

Are you sewing in a piece of wire over the nose bridge so you can form it for a tight fit?

Waste of time. Cooties are very small.

Coronavirus is 60-140 nano meter particle size. They will still spew in and out between the pores of the N95 filter and fabric.

N95 mask material is a government efficiency rating that means the mask blocks about 95 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns in size or larger. Notice that isn't 100% blockage even under ideal conditions of use.

0.3 microns = 300 nano meters. Therefore Corona virus is 1/2 the size of what a N95 filter is able to filter. 0.3 micrometer of filtration assumes you have a PERFECT seal around the entire perimeter of the mask which isn't possible.

Of course, if you have a beard, or stubble, be sure to shave that too. Otherwise what little mask seal you have is further compromised.

All good points, but some miss the point. Many pathogens, such as SARS CoV-2, are primarily spread in aerosolized droplets, which are much larger than the pathogen itself. A mask will provide some protection against those. I can get out of my car and walk through a standard sized residential doorway, but I can't drive my car through the doorway. A good fit is important to improve efficacy of a mask. Facial hair will affect the fit, as will the profile of the nose and face. I am required to be fit tested on a regular basis for an N95 before I can see my patients in the hospital, but even without that level of testing you can get an acceptable fit if you get a good seal. A moldable nose clip is important to help get the best fit possible. I think we also all know by now that a mask will also help prevent an infected person from spreading aerosolized pathogens, which perhaps is their most important function. Moldable nose clip or not, a mask and many other types of facial covering can be helpful to keep us all as safe as possible. Nothing protects 100%, or perhaps even 95%, but anything we can do to help keep us all safer is a step in the right direction. My thanks to Mark and others for coming up with creative ways to make facial coverings.

Indeed.

The point is that life is inherently dangerous. Motality is guranteed at 100%. None of us are going to escape death.

The idea that anyting we can do to "keep us safe" is fundamentally flawed and is a premise that cannot be accepted in a free society.

Other ideas to keep us safe and reduce deaths:

1) All at risk populations should permanenly be isolated - kept from friends and family forever. My MIL is in a assisted living situation. My wife is prohibited from visiting her. We are effectivly paying for the MIL to be forcibly imprisioned. This imprisonment is for her own good. It should be made permanent and should apply to all at risk populations (primarily those over age 65).

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#AgeAndSex

2) All youth populations that are stuggling with the isolation and fear mongering of the media should forcibly hospitalized for thier own benefit. I have a friend who's son is struggling with suicidal thoughts resulting from the previous death of a friend in February (not COVID related) and the ensuing isolation that has resulted from school closures and isolation from his friends. Forced hospitilization and forced restraint if necessary will help insure this poor kid never gets around to sucessfully pulling of a suicide. Funny how the discussion linkage between mental health and suicide related to COVID has been all but barred from public discussion.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/05/04/mental-health-coronavirus/

3) Reduce all speed limits to 15 mph. That would reduce traffic fatalites drastically.

4) Require all citizens over the age of 65 to wear helmets and hip pads at all times including in thier own homes. This would drastically reduce deaths from trip and fall accidents resulting from broken hips and traumatic head injury.

5) Force all known HIV positive patients to wear a purple star on thier sleeve. That way the rest of the population would know not to have unprotected sex with said person. Likewise, they shold have a special passport issued so that as they try to travel from country to country, the admitting country would have the option to turn them away and keep thier own population safe.

Hopefully we can all agree to these common sense solutions to keep us safe. After all if saves just one life, isn't it worth it?

No the 95 internally has the wire in it to hold shape.

As far as wearing a mask or not. It's your choice. If I were in a nursing home I would at least wear something just in case. My point is this is not a hermetically sealed bubble, but if you wear a mask, make it fashionable.
PS I think you are right, being the virus is round, all the lines confuse it.

Either way lets all get back to the getting to the next phase so this thing can be a distant memory.

Yes, asking you to wear a mask in public so you don't infect other people with a virus is *exactly* the same as the Nazis killing 6 million Jews.

What is it with you Americans and your obsession with Nazis?

You have completely diluted the horror of that period by constantly elevating minor inconveniences to your privileged life to the level of actual genocide.

Uhmmm. I don't know. Could it be the relationship to a goverment that failed to represent it's people, gradually took away the rights of citizens, and then went on to commit horrendous attrocity when they were left unchallenged?

I guess if you would like to take the position that the Nazi's did represent the average German citizen and that the holocaust is indeed what the german people wanted and fully supported, we could have that conversation.

I don't know how it is in CA but here in MI the government is clearly (arbitrarily) picking winners and losers about who can earn a living and who cannot. That is serious business.

Could it be that the government and media is floating the idea of immunity certificates that would determine who could shop, who could travel, and who would effectively be excommunicated from society.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/03/health/immunity-passport-coronavirus-lockdown-intl/index.html

Could it be that the government and activst groups are pushing the concept of forced vaccination?

https://www.law.com/newyorklawjournal/2020/05/28/state-bar-calls-for-mandatory-covid-19-vaccinations-regardless-of-objections/?slreturn=20200430153825

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/18/health/vaccine-laws-exemption-2020-trnd/index.html

When you no longer have the right to determine what happens to your own body and what can or cannot be injected into it, we are indeed living in dangerous times that have historical parallels.

Could it be that an unprecidented control grip that the Nazi's could have only wished for is being assembled in order to track COVID positives?

Physics informs that all things in nature follow the path of least resistance. This is why both versions of the mask are quite good at reducing outgoing as the droplet would need to somehow change direction and head for the corners which requires a force. The droplets tend to stick to the material.
On incoming the N95 usually seals pretty good but if not tight enough air can pass easily in the nose crease. After an afternoon of grinding gunk you have the dark suit lines in the crease. The other mask was only designed to stop out going, so droplets can move in fairly easy. The were designed to keep the surgical team from passing droplets into the open patient.
This is why it is important for all to wear them, it makes a HUGE difference on what is airborne. The mask combined with distance and constant hand washing, testing, tracing are the only chance of reducing the time until this is calmed down and reduce the body count.
Gee, I remembered something from my time teaching Micro Biology.

I agree these masks are not intended to seal like a true medical grade N95 mask and may not completely protect us if someone with the COVID virus were right in our face sneezing but they are certainly not a waste of time and may give a high level of protection for ourselves and especially others. I'm curious where you get your information. stirthepot.gif

Below is off the CDC website:

The virus that causes COVID-19 is approximately 0.125 micron (125 nanometers) in diameter. It falls squarely within the particle-size range that HEPA filters capture with extraordinary efficiency: 0.01 micron (10 nanometers) and above. Many media outlets have incorrectly stated that HEPA filters don’t filter below 0.3 micron and therefore could not capture airborne coronaviruses. That is flat wrong. (This NASA study of HEPA filtration is quite technical, but the graph on page 7 and the preceding paragraph do a good job of explaining why HEPA filters are actually most efficient—almost 100 percent at 0.01 micron—at capturing ultrafine particles below the 0.3-micron HEPA test standard.)

In SoCal, wearing a mask is nothing more than virtue signaling. We've been sold a pandemic when the numbers have been fudged and don't add up. If you are still wearing a mask, then you are falling for a media charade IMHO.

They finally opened the beaches here. There is probably no healthier place on earth you could be than in the hot sun, sand, and saltwater.

People like you are part of the problem. You have absolutely no concern for your fellow Americans while consuming propaganda from scientific illiterate "news" outlets on YouTube.

You have been regurgitating outlandish conspiracy theories from your beach front apartment and compared your inability to surf the waves to the horror of the holocaust.

I have no words for your complete disconnect with reality ...

In SoCal, wearing a mask is nothing more than virtue signaling. We've been sold a pandemic when the numbers have been fudged and don't add up.
If you are still wearing a mask, then you are falling for a media charade IMHO.

I don't think your beef over the holocaust was with Larmo. Don't misplace your frustration with me onto him.

I'm the backward redneck in middle of America that can't do math.

At what point will you be willing to admit that the preditions of 2 million+ dead from COVID havn't materialized?

I know exactly who i'm talking to. Just because you missed Larmo's tirades in the Sandbox doesn't mean they didn't happen.

You do realize that all those months of lockdown were put in place precisely so those numbers would not be realized?
That is quite literally the point of lockdowns and social distancing, to reduce the number of ill and dead.

You are trying to use the fact that is is working to prove that it wasn't necessary in the first place.

This thread is another political hot potato that will bring out the worst in our community.

I am disappointed. I am not going to close it, but another admin might.

I'd simply ask people not to respond.

I assume it’s ok to respond to the initial offering of masks and coverings?

I'm not down for the politics of the situation.

But if you want a mask let me know. I'm just trying to make something that if you choose to at least allows you to do so in style beerchug.gif

The point is that life is inherently dangerous. Motality is guranteed at 100%. None of us are going to escape death.

The idea that anyting we can do to "keep us safe" is fundamentally flawed and is a premise that cannot be accepted in a free society.

Other ideas to keep us safe and reduce deaths:

etc...

Dude, you must be the life of the party.

You compared your (temporary) inability to go surfing with the oppression of the Nazi regime in that Sandbox thread.

Please sit back in your beachfront "not an apartment" and think about that for a while ...

Mark,

I edited my quantities, co worker Pcar guy wants one too smile.gif

Posted by: Optimusglen Jun 1 2020, 11:59 AM

I'd be down for a black/grey plaid one if available.

Posted by: eric9144 Jun 1 2020, 02:25 PM

I'd be in for 2 -PM2.5 covers in plaid 80 and 81 and about 10 inserts.

Work has us going back in a day a week and requires us to wear one. I'd rather be comfortable.

Hi Mark,

I’m in for a 2.5 houndstooth in orange/black if you make it, otherwise the red/black is fine, and also 10 of the filters. Thanks!

My Grandfather died of COVID-19 3-weeks ago. My Mother and Grandmother had to say goodbye to him while looking through a window while standing in the bushes. It's not BS.

Mark ( @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3348 ), I'll take 2 of the houndstooth Red/Black and White/Black. Hopefully, we can have them for the SoCal run on Saturday. I would appreciate if you could send them down with Matt. Please PM me and I'll arrange the necessaries.

Asking my daughters few days ago which they wanted the only answer I got back was yes.

Apparently masks must be fashionable . After telling them all the colors was not an option they narrowed it down.

Two #44 plaid
Two #81 plaid
One black and white houndstooth
One black and red houndstooth
If you make orange and black houndstooth I will take two of those.
Ten pm 2.5 filters

Posted by: Mikey914 Jun 4 2020, 12:59 AM

Ok,
I've got the masks going for those so far. The production run is set up for this weekend and will be shipping Monday. Sorry, it just takes awhile to get the logistics together. I really wanted to have them before, but it'snot all lining up that way.

As there were quite a few of you that wanted extra filters, and to keep other folks from cleaning us out on them we are listing these up so that they will say they are more, but when added to the cart with the masks it will discount to the correct price. May be a bit confusing, but thought I'd explain it 1st. I will be contacting all tomorrow late afternoon with the links

Let me end this thread Plaid is for sissys

Posted by: ClayPerrine Jun 4 2020, 07:35 AM

I have not been following this thread but I guess I have to be Godzilla and come stomping out of the sandbox on this one.......

I am way late on this, but like the covid thread in the sandbox, I am going to invoke Godwin's Law.

If you don't know what Godwin's Law is, google it.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3348 I appreciate you offering these for sale. Due to the inherently political overtones present in anything to do with the pandemic, how about you run the mask sales through the 914 Rubber website.

Sorry to be an downer, but this is the kind of stuff that tears communities like this apart.

Clay (AKA Godzilla).

For all of you that were attempting to purchase masks, you will be receiving a PM from @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3348 about it.

Clay
