914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Dropped a screwdriver in the center console

Posted by: 911GT2 Jun 5 2020, 01:07 PM

...don't ask me how, but I managed to drop a screwdriver in the center console where the 3 gauges are located.

Is there a way in? Do the gauges push out like the speedo does?

Or am I doomed to take the entire console out?

They do pull out. Or remove the screws on the face panel and pull out the entire panel. beerchug.gif

grab the top of the instrument panel and pull out. It will pop out of the console and you are all set

happy11.gif Yup, pull at the top and the panel will flop down. Back in the day it was a great place to hide your stash. happy11.gif

OMG! Another way is to cut the floor of the center tunnel from under the car to gain access behind the console. But only as a last resort.

Can’t be done. Buy another screwdriver.

Lot of funny guys here. I do prefer to pull the front panel off a little differently than just pulling from the top. I reach around from the top and feel for the backs of the two metal clips near the top corners and PUSH them out. The reason being that the clips are in press board and if they are clipped in tight, you can pull them right out of the front panel and tear out the holes they go in in the process. Pushing them out from the back is more gentle to the panel.

Mount the car on a rotisserie. The rest is obvious. laugh.gif
