914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Differential Cover on Early Transmission

Posted by: 914Sixer Jun 6 2020, 08:55 PM

Part number 901 301 311 2R. Number does not exist in current PET for 911/912/914 transmission side cover. All models show to use the 914 cover part number 914 301 311 01. Trying to solve a question. Seller says part is from a 69 912 902 trans case.

Cover has a clutch cable loop to hold up cable. Thinking someone might fab a bracket to hold clutch cable in close .

The number you posted is a casting number. It does look like an early 901 side cover. PET show it for 911/912 and 914. They probably kept the same part number and dropped the tab in later years. Looks like it would interfere with the clutch cable pulley bracket mounting on a 914.

Maybe a 71 or 72 911 trans with the pull clutch.

BINGO !
'70-'71 first version of the pull clutch. The trans is known by it's 911 prefix.
Very unusual TOB too. When mounting the trans to the engine the TOB had to be
rotated to attach it to the throwout arm. Stumps many a mechanic.
Two year only clutch cable too.
The loop on the side cover is a guide for the cable not a mount.

I had to cut that off when I was installing a 911 (901) trans into my bug. It interfered with the bug eng/trans frame horn.
My bug shifts as bad as a 914. biggrin.gif
