Feeling the need to get out and drive? Missing that interaction with other teeners? Mark your calendars for September 24-27, 2020 and join other 914 owners for some fantastic driving in beautiful east Tennessee.
This fall, head to the mountains of east Tennessee to celebrate 50 years of the Porsche 914 in America. The drive will be based in “action packed” Pigeon Forge, TN – home to Dollywood, outlet shopping, music theaters, moonshine distilleries, mini golf and go-karts! What more could you ask for?
Roads? You’re asking for roads? Well, then… how does close proximity to some of the best roads in the southeast – Foothills Parkway (including The Missing Link), The Dragon, Moonshiner 28, Cherohala Skyway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway – sound?
FRIDAY DRIVE: We’ll enter the newest section of Foothills Parkway in Wears Valley and travel west to US129 / The Dragon. From there, the drive takes us into North Carolina along Moonshiner 28. Photo op at Fontana Dam and then break for lunch and free drive afterwards. Hit The Dragon multiple times or take the scenic Cherohala Skyway.
SATURDAY DRIVE: A day of leisurely scenic driving in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a portion of Blue Ridge Parkway. Lunch in Maggie Valley and then return the way we came. Plenty of pullouts to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Smokies.
Feel free to join us for the entire weekend or meet up with us for one of the drives. The main goal of this event is to bring 914 enthusiasts together to enjoy driving mountain roads. And with Pigeon Forge as the base of operations, there is plenty to do while not driving.

Dave, As always, you are too kind It is so hard these days to find that kind of selflessness and the desire to uplift mankind!!!! Actually having to replace the engine harness. There was a recall from Porsche about 20 years ago for this on the 1995 993 models. I was unaware and had been chasing electrical gremlins for months. It could have been a disaster! A meltdown or electrical fire. I will keep your offer in mind every time I bust my knuckles.

What is the going rate per night for rooms ? I have heard that they are starting you out at $200 per night and you have to negotiate your way down. Tried to book online at first. Showed no availability, but the day after was $69. I don't mind a business trying to make a profit, but that seems a little steep.

Yeah... Pigeon Forge lodging in the fall can get crazy expensive - especially once the leaves start turning.
However, the group rate for Teenerpalüza is ~$70/night plus taxes. I have no idea what the standard room rate is for that weekend.

hey Steve, i may have a friend coming with but he's not really interested in the shirt etc, but may change his mind once he sees it, anyway Jim has been up to Okteenerfest before, and found out he will be able to get the time off and come up. If he doesnt want a shirt, is there any reason to "register"? just riding along - Oh and i hope your temps cool off in the next 2 weeks, looks a little warm still.... i know you cant control the weather but..., but it does not matter, we will be driving teeners in the trees!! - is there a good place to go hang out outside in the evening like up in Helen along the creek?(with room for proper social distancing of course as well).
Looking forward to it,
Phil

OK, so I've been told I've been noticeably absent from this thread and event. Even being accused of hiding in my basement not seeing the rest of the world.... lol. Nothing could be further from the truth on that!!!
We went to Colorado in April to see Nadine's mom after Nadine's father died, then starting Memorial Day weekend, we were at the track as a vendor for 6 straight weekends. Had a few off in July, went to Summit Point Raceway to drive at the end of July (had a bad trans fluid leak that ended the weekend early), Spent a week in Florida for my fathers surgery, and have been to the track twice since then to work.
Trust me...I really REALLY want to be there and really REALLY wanted to have a normal Okteenerfest. Steven and I spoke about this months ago and unfortunately our schedule (for this year at least) conflicted with every single weekend in September and most of October...
But I am getting to race next weekend, so that's good! (17 914's are currently signed up for the PCA Club Race at Summit Point!!!).
So to the person that shall remain nameless...no, we are NOT alike in hiding from the world!!

Can do like during the Rod Runs and park your folding chairs on the sidewalk along the Parway or... hang out at the https://www.westgateresorts.com/hotels/tennessee/pigeon-forge/wild-bear-inn/dining/wild-bear-tavern/ and enjoy its German cuisine and selection of beer and liquor (closes at 8:00 ). A short distance down the Parkway is Patriot Park. Or, we can hang out in the parking lot
Two more weeks...

sorry we will not get to see you guys this year!, well good thing its not an official Okteenerfest, so your perfect record for attendance to Okteenerfest may still be in place. well we may have to vote on that, or atleast there will be an asterisk ** in the official record book , i guess that may leave just a few of us that have made and driven our car at all the Okteenerfests........ I'm keeping it simple, just an oil change and its ready.
See you there.

Being east Tennessee, this WILL change
Might want to make sure your heat system is working. Mornings are bound to be chilly

well that’s true, and also why i was doing clear bra Xpel treatment to the front, and i am considering doing that on the rear quarters and doors too. hope you keep that beauty as is and see you next year. i have been touching some stuff up and cleaned up a few things that i couldn’t afford to do 2 years ago... if you can believe it, it’s actually improved from last year, it since we are in the custom class, i plan on adding some tasteful dealer offered type options like ski rack etc!. just added this.....

Looks like BETA has changed the forecast a bit...
So in addition to having your Heat system in order, You will want to be sure that you Wipers work also.
Looks like Clay will be suffering this weather for most of his drive up...

yea, it really sucks but what would suck more would be having one on the trip!. Steve M. knows about that, happened to him a few years back. I got food poisoning from the BBQ joint thursday night 3 years back in Banner Elk, was sick all day friday, still couldnt eat at the banquet either... so if you ever go to Banner Elk, just dont eat at the Pink Pig, ... or the Pepto Pig i call it now
So we'lll have to get together up in Charlotte then sometime. Let me know if there are any car events starting back up and i will come up. We are down in SC and our son lives in Charlotte so we like to come up as much as we can!

I don't think we will suffer that much. We are leaving very early on Wednesday morning, and from your pictures, we will be well ahead of Beta. Plus, Elwood just got all new seals for the passenger compartment. They fit nice and tight. Yes, I know he's a 914, so they are going to leak, but it has been cut down as much as possible. We will be putting towels inside to catch any leaks while he is on the trailer, and we have an umbrella cover for when he is parked.
And when I showed Betty this, she said "Doesn't matter, we are coming no matter what!"
We arrive very late Wednesday night, so we will see any early arrivers on Thursday!

Had a minor set back Saturday while driving. Fried the rotor button. Swapped over from my green car. Changed the cap, rotor, wires and new points. GPS mount is wired, and drove to work today. Tonight I adjust heat cables, rain x and pack spares and tools. See everyone soon.

Man that is cutting it CLOSE!, no time to even cure! that looks pretty good too, dont mess that paint job up by not letting it cure long enough, unless you are planning on a wrap over it? have a great weekend

No worry, Acrylic Lacquer PPG, Reassembled last night leaving first thing tomorrow morning. Up in the air this morning changing the oil, found both rear shocks seeping from the top seal. Koni reds, I’m going with seepage, opposed to leakage. Still seem to be dampenIng.
Also I’m still going with the bumper sticker, unofficially.

I have to fix the left hand rocker panel, the screws fell out (Thanks @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=6 ).
It is just barely raining here and a bit cool. Hopefully it will dry up soon.
We are getting ready to go find some fun roads and do the touristy bit.

I moved Elwood outside, opened him up and took out all the carpet today. I also hung the umbrella cover on the fence. The warm weather and the wind dried everything up quickly.
Thanks again Steve for putting this one together. We really needed it.

uploaded my pics to my 914 album (scroll down to get to them):
Engine quit exactly halfway between home and TN. Had to get the car towed to Eurotechnik in Hendersonville NC. Thought it was the fuel pump. A VW mechanic who stopped to help also did (checked pressure at the sensor and said it was too low). Prettiest NC state trooper made sure I was OK. A teenerpaluza guy stopped as well to check on me. Finally got it towed, had to leave it with a shop I knew nothing about with the key in a key drop since it was Saturday. Rented a car to get home.
Monday diagnosis showed I was wrong. The coil went bad. It was an original '74 part. Don't want to talk about the price the situation put me in. It's back home and now I get to deal with the damaged back end.
I had a fantastic time with you all despite the home trip and look forward to the next event.
Thanks to Bill and John for their phone support and encouragement!

Driving Tennessee 32.
This road is beautiful. Lots of turns, one side is a national forest, and the other is mostly a steep dropoff. And the best part is at the state line, it turns into a gravel road, so no traffic to speak of!. It is a slow drive because of the rain. We didn't want to risk sliding off the road.
