From the book "VW Beetle performance Handbook"
Pg. ?
German made Kerscher front brake conversion features this high quality ventilated disc which is designed to slip straight onto the stock Volkswagen disc brake spindles. The Kerscher disc doesn't require any modifications to the bearings.

Kerscher conversion uses this caliper which bolts onto the stock VW caliper mounting without the need for any adaptor bracket or machining. You can also upgrade the front brakes of your Bug by using Talbot Horizon front calipers.

Potentially, there are many ventilated disc brake systems which could be adapted to the Beetle, but the most popular has proved to be that from the Porsche 944 sports car. The 944, and it's predecessor the 924, shared several components with various Volkswagens, including certain suspension parts.
This led somebody in the past tom take a close look at what could be swapped over from water cooled Porsche to air-cooled VW, with the brake set-up coming in for paticular scrutany. all my 914's came from the factory with vented disks.

914/4's do not use Beetle spindles.

IOW - all the work is left as a exercise for the reader...
you're welcome to do that work and report back, or accept that the people who've been trying to improve 914/4 braking fpr 35 years would have taken that approach if it were actually easier.

Hey Dave,

even tho the 914/4 uses the same wheelbearings, the rest of the assembly is different enough so that it makes no sense to use the bettle conversion parts.
