914World.com _ 914World Garage _ CALLING ALL MIDWEST 914'S

Posted by: Curvie Roadlover Jul 19 2003, 12:53 PM

August 10th -a mere 3 weeks away is the date for this year's annual http://www.ohio914meet.com/ and swap meet. Go to the link for details about location, times, directions, places to stay, etc. This year's event is going to be in a park setting. Here's a link to Barber Dave's (event host) post on the other BBS http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=119614. Last year's event was, I'm sure, the largest gathering of 914's ever in the mid-west, and this years event promises to be bigger and better.
Looking forward to seeing you all there,
Tom "Curvie" Mulcrone

Expect between 10-20 SMOG members. We will be meeting up in the Cabela's parking lot in Dundee, MI at 11:00 am just like last year, so we can arrive as a group. smilie_flagge6.gif

I'll be there less the car. She isn't quite ready yet.

Not that anyone knows me (yet) ninja.gif But I will be there also. No car sad.gif. Look for the short, fat, bald guy from Indiana in 96 Black F150 & a 914 club sticker on back aktion035.gif

I just got a second email from the property supervisor asking for volenteers to help out in Tennessee. I ignored the first one. The pressure is on now. One of several things could happen. I could be traveling that weekend and take a detour, or I could be sent earlier or later. Maybe I can stop by. I'll know more tomorrow. confused24.gif

Just 2 weeks to go!! w00t.gif

Any Chicago area teeners going? I'm thinking about making the trip but I'd be more comfortable in a caravan in case an unfortunate breakdown occurs. Never had it happen yet, but you never can tell!

Posted by: Curvie Roadlover Jul 29 2003, 04:16 PM

HAHA Chris,
When I first read your post I thought you meant a Dodge caravan. Now I get it, you mean like a convoy. That would be safest. but I think you should come either way (caravan or solo, not Dodge caravan) change the oil, adjust the valves, grab some spares and tools and hit the road. You'll make it! wink.gif

Posted by: Chris H. Jul 29 2003, 06:05 PM

LOL! Yeah I guess it does read that way Tom. I am going to try to go but I hope to get at least a 2-man convoy going. If anyone is interested let me know. Hope to see y'all there!

Maybe I'm overly optimistic about the abilities of these cars to go on long trips, esp. after driving my current car home from California to Michigan back in Nov. but with my first 914 I was afraid to drive it much farther than I was willing to push it home. I now regret that. I wish I'd have had the confidence in that car when I owned it to take it on long drives. I'm sure it would have made it. Those years with that car were sort of wasted on little trips to the market, etc. We'll see you in a week and a half, Chris!! wavey.gif

Posted by: Doug Leggins Jul 29 2003, 08:12 PM

Missed last year's event due to being away on vacation in FL. Going to miss this year's event due to being on vacation in FL. Maybe the third time is the charm. I hope to make it next year. By then I may even have a 914 that I would trust driving that far.

Take plenty of pics! and please share them with us.

Posted by: seanery Jul 29 2003, 08:33 PM

Hey Doug get the car ready, we're coming your way this fall to drive the great roads down there and get some pretty shots. Maybe PNambic will have his car ready by then.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Jul 30 2003, 03:52 PM

Can we figure out how to get Cody to this event ?? He will need to get out of the house.

OK SMOG members, Here's the plan for the 10th: We will meet up in the Cabela's parking lot in Dundee, MI at 10:00AM. From there we will travel as a group down to Maumee. We will then begin to kick ass and take names! lol2.gif

Hey Chris, I live in Portage Indiana exit 19 off of I94,
I'm not sure what the exit number is off of the Indiana
toll road.
I would love to caravan with you. I am picking my car
up on Thursday down in Morton IL, driving it home,
and will be ready to go Sunday. I will PM you.

What a lovely thought!

However, short of an act of God or my winning the lottery, my car's probably out of action until at least next year. I should be getting more time (and money) to throw at it soon though. We'll see.

Is anyone from or going through Cincy?

Posted by: robby750 Aug 6 2003, 10:00 AM

I will be going through Cincy on Saturday Morning.

Posted by: seanery Aug 6 2003, 12:02 PM

One of our members, Terry Howard, died July 28. His son, Cody, lives in Middletown, just outside of Cincy. Do you have any room in your ride for another?

I haven't contacted him yet, I wanted to see if we could get him a ride first. He's approx 16-17 and a great kid!

Thanks,
Sean

Posted by: robby750 Aug 6 2003, 02:06 PM

Sorry, no room. I will have my son with me.

Posted by: seanery Aug 6 2003, 03:51 PM

no prob.

ANYONE ELSE COMING THROUGH CINCY?!

Posted by: Brad Roberts Aug 8 2003, 12:36 AM

I spoke to Missy (Terry's widow/Cody's mom) she said he would love to go.. we will see if his uncle can take him.. his uncle is a wrench and is helping him with BOTH 914's.

She said the flowers from the club at the funeral made her breakdown in tears (again). She knew how much the club ment to Terry and Cody.

Brad: Cody was able to be at my meet. As you said a very fine young man, he got to meet everyone ,he had some specal requests . He needed pictures of the interior of some 914's . So Curive Roadlover is going to send him all he took. I really think he had a good time and was very comfortable being there. I was glad to play a part in this. Nice Event Dave!

We had a good turnout and everyone had a good time.
How about a tour next year? got a lot of nice cars, lets show em off!!

Posted by: Brad Roberts Aug 10 2003, 11:17 PM

Thanks Dave. Sean told me that you had taken this upon yourself to make sure Cody made it to the event. I really do appreciate your effort with Cody and the entire event. I know what it takes to put small events on.. and your event appears to have been a great success. The Michigan area is lucky to have a person like you that has such a burning passion for the 914's.

Thanks again Dave. clap56.gif

And special thanks to Sean for arranging the flowers and helping to bridge the communication gap for me here on the west coast. This wouldnt have come together without you Sean.
