914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Distributor Rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding my distributor and need to source the fiber washwer at the drive end of the distributor anyone know where I might obtain one?

Also is there a qualitative way to test the vacuum advance unit?

Thanks,
Dan

You'll have to pick up a used dist for the fiber washer, but any VW dist should have one. I have no idea where to get one new, but a VW source will probably be your best bet.

To test the vacuum canister, hook a gauge and a hand vacuum pump to the canister. Pull a vacuum and if it loses anything in the first minute, it's toast. Most of them leak where the vacuum port is crimped to the body. If you use some sort of sealant around the base of the tube you can "fix" it. If you want to get more scientific, graph its pressure loss over time. wink.gif

Mark,
Thanks for the response.

I checked around and the washer is NLA (new), I can source some washers made of delrin which I heard will withstand the oil and heat.
