This guy is a great parts seller but I don't think this is an actual 914 part, is it?

I concur that it is an original part. I also agree it does not seem to be in the parts catalog, but then there are many parts not listed in the catalog.
I believe it is meant to keep insects from entering the front trunk.

I have 5 early 914's and they came on every one of them. 914rubber makes a nice reproduction.

I have bought a few parts from the eBay seller... super fair but they have a habit of sand blasting the parts, so depending on the part it may retain sand that needs to be cleaned.
