914World.com _ 914World Garage _ NPC: rare VW-based coach built Rometsch

Extremely rare (said to be only 5 in existence today) 1957 Rometsch Lawrence as seen at Circle Yer Wagens VW show in Sevierville, TN.

This car won Most Unique as well as Promoter's Choice Air Cooled.

The interior looks Volkswagen, but I would have never guessed from the outside.

Hand formed aluminum body on a VW pan. The engine has dual carbs.
The owner drove it from... Indiana IIRC confused24.gif He had it at Amelia Island a couple years ago with other VW-based coachbuilt vehicles.

Looks like the one a buddy and I bought at the Bug In in the 70s. The motor was shot, he fixed it and I made about 100 bucks. I was happy as 16 year old could be. I had no idea what we had back then.

Chassis was Volkswagen, following Wikipedia engine (68 PS) and transmission Porsche.
1200 man-hours to build one.

and, quite important , at least for me as a „real Berliner“ these cars have been made in Berlin (Berlin-Halensee, which was part of the American Sector of the occupied city flag.gif flag.gif )
