914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Black Friday/close out muffler sale

Posted by: mb911 Nov 19 2020, 07:25 AM

Guys and Gals

It has come a time for me to evaluate and grow the business. I have decided to close out my quiet technology mufflers. They are fantastic mufflers but very expensive to sit on parts/components in preparation to sell a completed muffler based off of my build to order business model. I am going to make a run of them based off of sales over the next 2 weeks and then they will become NLA. Please note I will still have plenty of options as I have new 914-6 heat exchangers,1.7 ,2.0 914-6 mufflers all available along with all my other products.. So here is how this will shake out

914-6 quiet muffler $550 (stock tail pipe)
914 2.0 quiet muffler $600(stock tail pipe)

Payment can be made by check or paypal with you paying fees.

Shipping is typically $40-$45
GT style bracket, hardware, and gaskets will be $60 with purchase of mufflers. Please note that the picture is for showing some of my products. This offer is for stock outlet only

Thanks for all of your support.. This has been a challenging year for everyone and I have never forgotten all the support I have received from all of the people in the 914 communityAttached Image Attached Image

I know there are many options for mufflers out there but once you see Ben's work you will stop looking at anything else. I have his complete exhaust system on my car and every time I am under my car I just stare at it. Everyone who looks under my car can't get over the exhaust system and the absolutely beautiful welds. Without people like Ben supporting our cars they would not be as nice or as steetable. smilie_pokal.gif beerchug.gif

Posted by: mepstein Nov 19 2020, 08:33 AM

I agree. No other muffler or exhaust system comes close at any price.
I just bought another one from Ben this morning.. beerchug.gif

The equal length and correct total length also make a Porsche engine run better.

I don't need a muffler at the moment but am very tempted to order one of these.

I have a stock 74 2.0.

What is the sound like on these versus stock. Louder, quieter, deeper, other?

Do they work with the original style heat exchangers?

Thanks.

Posted by: BeatNavy Nov 19 2020, 12:06 PM

This is tempting. I have one of Chris Foley's EVO II silencers, and I like it a lot. But quiet is starting to sound better and better....

A little deeper then stock but not very loud. Yes they work with stock heat exchangers

I love Ben's 914-6 heat exchangers and quiet muffler. I would recommend picking up a quiet muffler if you don't have one already. It's easy to swap out and replace your existing obnoxious muffler with built in drone and the required ear plugs. After installing the quiet muffler, I will never go back to a dual exhaust or glass pack. The sound is amazing, but no drone and you can have conversations with people in the car. I can also now hear the stereo and don't need ear plugs.

Thanks everyone.. Keep the orders coming. Lets get these moved

Wow! Hell of a deal folks.

I have one of quiet mufflers on my car and its been night and day over my Triad for longer trips.

And I paid a HELL of a lot more then $600 for it. I'd jump on this with both feet. Killer deal and you will regret missing out on it.

John welcome back to the fold

Posted by: mb911 Dec 4 2020, 08:19 AM

Just wanted to update everyone.. There has been an overwhelming interest in these mufflers and because of that I am trying to do the assembly line type of construction. It is likely all of them will ship around the same time which does drag it out a bit for all of you but makes it easier to make for me.. If anyone for any reason wants to back out because of the delay let me know.. Anyone whom sent a check I won't deposit until next week.

Thanks everyone for the support.. I look forward to new possibilities in 2021.

Posted by: bbrock Dec 4 2020, 08:42 AM

No rush on mine Ben. I meant to tell you that I could go to the back of the line if needed but sounds like that won't matter. Thanks for the update. Hopefully my check arrived.

Posted by: bahnzai Dec 4 2020, 08:45 AM

Ditto, no rush on mine either, although I know it is a bit custom.

Posted by: mb911 Dec 10 2020, 12:44 PM

Update.. All 914-6 mufflers are shipping 1st and over the next few days.. I had $8,000 worth of inlets made for the type 4 guys and they should be done Monday or Tuesday.. Then onto type 4 stuff. Thanks for your patience and support

Just a couple of updates. All 914-6 mufflers have shipped. 2.0 mufflers will start shipping this week. One note. This video though very nice is not of a quiet muffler. DucRS ordered a louder version. It sounds great no doubt but a few pm'd me with questions regarding sound levels.. The video represents a louder version..

Thanks

Update 90% of these mufflers have shipped those that provided email addresses should have received ups tracking numbers. Those that didn't will not.

From a loudness perspective, how would you compare it to your original muffler? Louder, quieter, about the same?

For those who installed on their 2.0. Did you use / purchase the GT bracket?

I guess I did not read closely enough. When I placed my order I did not realize the bracket was an additional purchase. Just checking how others installed.

Thx

I would use the bracket. Ben sells them at or below cost and they support the muffler properly, just like a 911 muffler is mounted.

Yes, it’s a must have. Ben’s bracket was a perfect fit. It comes painted/powdercoated ready for install.

Yeah sorry if it was confusing to anyone.. these mufflers with hardware and gt style bracket are almost a wash for me.. it just helped get inventory off the books.. it also bombarded me with orders and has helped me to streamline things moving forward.. I have found some cheaper prices on hardware and gaskets that helps me keep doing this but I am not making gt3 money not even 914 money biggrin.gif

Mine arrived about two hours ago. Ben, REALLY nice work! Will probably polish it before I install it just because it deserves the extra attention.

Speaking of installing, does anyone have a picture of the GT mount on the transmission? I know I'll probably figure it out, but I can't wait to get to it.

Posted by: mepstein Jan 4 2021, 06:50 PM

Once you remove the stock muffler hanger, put the gt hanger on the two trans studs. It really only fits one way. Then bolt the muffler to the heat exchangers and strap the muffler to the gt hanger.

I received mine yesterday also and spent a good twenty minutes scrutinizing the perfection of every weld. I really can't recall buying anything welded to this standard. Truly amazing. It will be some time before I get to hear mine so look forward to your vids.

BTW, I did just a little digging and found there are cell phone apps to measure sound decibels that are surprisingly accurate. As I've muffler shopped, I've longed for a database of measured sound levels using standardized measuring procedures. Might be something the community could do with our phones? confused24.gif

No stock hanger.
I’m not the final answer on this but I don’t think there’s any harm in letting the he’s hang as long as you don’t lean in them. If they have all four nuts tightened down, they are pretty secure.

I'm planning to use the stock hanger. There's no reason it won't work. The HEs are still going to be in the same place they've always been and the muffler has to bolt to them.

The reason I suggest against that is because the muffler body is not supported in anyway and thus making it a lever and with the body of the muffler only .040 thick will likely work harden the welds and Crack at some point. I completely disagree with the engineering decision porsche made with stock system. The 911 setup is so much better.

I wouldn't but it's Ben's design so he knows more than me. @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=9892

I look forward to his reply but I can't imagine what harm it would do. It's lighter than the stock muffler, right? confused24.gif

A quick story as to how I got in this business. Rewind 20 years I was building a 914-6 conversion. I had a stock muffler that appeared in good shape. I took the car out for its first drive and within the 1st 15 minutes the muffler was draging behind the car.. I then built a stainless muffler (the very 1st m&k exhaust) it worked well and was much lighter but after a few years it had started to work harden. Eventually I made something similar to what you see..

I do think most will never have an issue. Its just a case and point

Thanks Ben. Is there any reason to think your mufflers are more susceptible to work hardening than say, a stock muffler?

Only because it's stainless and then remember its thinner then a stock muffler. I have not seen any failures but don't want to either.

Moving forward the bracket will just be part of the muffler kit as a whole and not an option.

Gotcha. No question your hangers are a better design but I do have that originality disease. As you know, choosing a muffler was a tough decision for me, and it is a testament to the quality of yours that I was swayed from going original. beerchug.gif

Oh I know exactly what your saying.. I knew that was going to be a difficult decision for you. Likely never an issue but I am to careful I guess. My dads disease of being a safety inspector on every aspect of life was passed down to me. biggrin.gif

I still have a few left.. I am actually thinking of tooling up to do a run of these.. I am going to adjust retail on these and continue to sell at a huge value.

Maybe over kill, but I used both the standard hanger and Ben’s GT bracket.
I figured the standard bracket supports the headers/heat exchangers, and the GT bracket supports the muffler...

Posted by: BillJ Jan 6 2021, 11:09 AM

that's really not a bad idea - best of both worlds i guess.

I want to use the stock hangar in conjunction with the GT bracket as well for extra support. Do the flanges line up okay with the stock hangar still on? Going without the stock hangar feels like not wearing a seatbelt. shades.gif lol-2.gif

The flanges should line up fine since Ben's muffler uses a stock size flange. You might have to put longer studs into the trans mount.

I hate the stock bracket and can't wait to ditch mine once I get Ben's muffler. The stock bracket, or at least mine that may be tweaked, always seems to make hooking up the HE's to the head properly that much more difficult.

Well I feel like a dumbass. I was cleaning up packing material and empty boxes in the shop tonight and kicked a box that was unopened. Opened it up to find a shiny GT muffler hanger, gaskets, and hardware inside. I got so excited about the muffler that I overlooked the other little box. screwy.gif I guess I'll do the double hanger thing too.

Posted by: VaccaRabite Jan 7 2021, 09:32 AM

I don't understand the push to do a double bracket. It is not at all necessary, and the stock bracket is a PITA anyway.

I agree. I dumped the stock bracket on my Six and went with the GT bracket and it works perfectly. confused24.gif beerchug.gif

For myself, I initially thought that the longer exchangers (compared to 911) combined with the rotational force of the engine might be hard on the exchangers and muffler welds w/o the added stability of the original hangar. But I suppose the whole mass (engine/trans/exchangers/muffler) rotate the same amount on acceleration/decel. If the muffler is mounted with only a GT style bracket on the GT and rally cars it must not be a concern.

In reality, I think the exchangers are really supported by the muffler even with the original hanger. The muffler and HEs are bolted together as a solid unit so I don't think which hanger you use changes the forces on the HEs much. Like Ben said, with the original hanger, the weight of the muffler is cantilevered behind the hanger support point which will put strain on the inlets.

Hi All,

Received my muffler. As other reported, it is a work of art.

Unfortunately, mine was manhandled by the gorillas at UPS. There is a 2.5 inch dent in upper left, near the weld line.

Ben has offered to let me return it as well as some suggestions to remove the dent. On the one hand I know I am being a bit obsessive as it *probably* will not effect sound or performance and may not even be visible once on the car. Anyway, wondering what others think in terms of repair options, returning, living with it whatever.

Ben suggested blocking the inlets and forcing done compressed air via the tailpipe. I did try this to no avail. Have not come up with a great way to seal / fill the tailpipe so not sure if the actual psi. 2.5 us not a standard plumbing size. Given gauge if metal, not sure if air without heat is enough to pop it.

Ben also offered to send me a paintless dent repair kit he has. Again, not sure if that will work as they are generally made for thinner gauge body panels and / or the hot glue might not stic to the stainless. I did try with just a heated glue stick but it popped right off.

Another option could be to use electric stud welder to tack a stud and pull the dent. However, do not want to turn one problem into a bigger problem.

Yes, we could do a UPS claim but, from my experience, UPS always blames the packaging. There was no visible damage to box. Likely it was dropped in an edge like lip of truck.

As noted, I could just live with it. Open to other ideas.

Thanks.

Mike

I would file a claim

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=11639 - I have received 2 of Ben's mufflers - they were packed as if they were going to circumnavigate the globe. Sorry your muffler got treated roughly somewhere during the shipping/delivery trip.

I would file a claim with UPS. Sadly some of the handlers and delivery personnel are not as careful as they should be. If it were me, I would want no dent- the muffler is a piece of art.

What would it cost to ship it back to Ben and let him straighten that out? Of course that would be after the UPS does whatever they are going do. Or you could ship it and have Ben repair it then file the claim with pictures to show the box and the damage and claim for the shipping and whatever Ben would charge to fix the muffler and return it.

Sucks that it came dented like that. We have all received parts at some point that were damaged in shipping and it is frustrating-especially when it cost so much to ship nowadays.

Yes, although I mentioned it earlier, Ben has been accomodating in trying to resolve so kudos to him. Obviously, easiest thing for both of us would be to pop it out if possible so we are looking at that first. But yes, may wind up having to file claim with UPS if all else fails. Unfortunately, the standard response from UPS is generally to blame damage on packaging.

Fortunately, teener pretty much remains in garage until spring so hopefully can resolve. Trying to think of better way to add air pressure at tailpipe..

Given the thickness of the sheet metal in the muffler, air pressure alone won't work. You'll need to pressurize the muffler and then heat the crease with a torch. Shouldn't require so much heat that you weaken the metal, but it will be discolored. Maybe you can polish it afterward.

Thanks. Yes, mist of the videos I have seen use air plus heat. In this case, I do not want to try anything without Ben's guidance or approval lest I make it worse and then it becomes a situation of, "well I would have taken it back before you did whatever to it".

So we have so many things going on here.. 1st all these mufflers were sold at cost. It sucks when this happens because there is no way to make it work for everyone. UPS will likely require Mike give all the packing, the muffler and the box to them. Then it will take weeks for answer. They are 50/50 on what the outcome will be. Meanwhile I am sold out on the quiet mufflers and not sure when I could make more so if this were to get returned there wouldn't be a replacement available for a while.

This dent in no way effects the performance of the muffler but it sucks for the buyer as they expect the muffler as advertised and as the seller I want to provide the best experience as possible.. it's basically a terrible spot to be in..

The best way would to have Mike pop that out without any of the other alternatives..I would think the PDR kit would do it and if that won't bring it back enough then air pressure and heat..

Posted by: mb911 Jan 17 2021, 06:21 PM

I should just clarify. I will make it right that's my personality but I watch every dime after last years extremely terrible experience of giving away $$$$$.$$.

I so do believe this can be brought back to 90-95%

Posted by: Amphicar770 Jan 24 2021, 12:27 PM

All,

Ben sent me PDR kit which arrived yesterday. I also picked up a similar kit at Eastwood along with some stronger TabWeld Glu sticks and slide puller to augment robo puller.

After spending several hours and dozens of pulls, including some pretty strong ones, I think it is about as good as it's going to get without going to a next level which could do more harm than good (stud welder, glowing red heat, etc). I also was able to apply about 25 psi of pressure to the inside.

I would say it is some improvement at this point. Reduced the length of the dent to about 2.25" x 1.25", it now looks much like a teaspoon (although I guess it looked similar with a sharper crease before).

Perhaps one of the metal masters here has ideas to further reduce it. Getting to it from behind is not an option.

On a plus side, I do doubt it will effect sound or performance. Likewise, it *might" not be visible once installed (I have not yet removed old muffler to try fitting). On the other hand, it's still a noticable blemish :-(

Ideas welcomed.
