The event is Friday September 23rd to Sunday September 25th.
http://www.914world.com/events/rrc2005/rrc2005.php for all the details.
I'm registered. Room is reserved. Shirt is purchased. Car is basically ready.
all day
all night
see you there!
I'm in. Taking Party Centrial. Not sure what she'll be towing. I know there are more from Californicate that will be in but they can speek up when they are ready.
 Joe
I'm officially in!
Now if I can talk my car into coming with...
I am going to try and make it. Need funds and I guess I need to figure out how to straighten my tub out (weld shrinkage problem) first.
I'm in for sure.
Ferg.
I'm in. Hotel reserved. Registration submitted. Minor stuff to do on the car, but nothing that would prevent me from driving there today - mostly cosmetic.
It looks like it's gonna be great fun! How much are the track fees for the auto-cross?

Registration update:
So lets get this rolling..
I'm going to start brow-beating all the colorado folk.
We need to get the numbers formalized so that in a month we can get all the reservations.
If your intending to come, please go ahead and register. I know I can't pay until my payday comes up.
The more advance notice we have the better we can carry out the details, so get your registrations in please!
so far we have registrations from:
-John Peterson aka: Vegasracer
-Michael Wills aka: MW 914
-James Buchanan aka: Stratplayer
-Ernie DeVries aka: ThinAir914
-Kelly Thorson aka: echocanyons
-Mike Ferguson aka: Ferg
-Brant McClung
-Joe O’Brien aka: 914RS
-Ron Diederichsen aka: RonD
-Joe Sharp
-Greg silva aka: trojanman
-Benjamin Martin aka: BMartin914
-Linda Horne
-toast!
-Mike and Sharron Ginter aka: gint
and I have a little list of folk that haven't filled out the registration yet, but had better come..... or else....
gint, eric, john lush, !!!!!!
I just registered, now the important question, how much
Fat Tire is everyone bringing, i'm down for a case!

I just registered, now the important question, how much |
Uh, John, you missed the important part of my post, I was asking how much beer!
Ferg
Utah has 3.2% beer, and you cannot by liquor on Sudays!
Now, us Califonians have at least 5% beer.
Seems like I should bring my own "contraband" with me.
I'm glad im not on the "you better come or else" list.
I'll pay for registration as soon as I get paid next.
Already have the hotel room!
Just registered. Cars ready as it's going to get for now. But work is pressing so hope I can be there.
Anyone bringing a Mountain Bike?
Ferg
OK, I registered. I can't promise that I'll be there, but Luckie will for sure.
I'm receiving them right and left...
I'll update the list on page one.
also... pelican is going to pitch in some door prizes as a sponsor.
brant
OK John & Brant....
Right now chances are slim to none that I can make it. If I can, is there a possibility to do a last minute registration? I have 2 beer fests, a balloon rally in White Sands, Nico's Birthday, our first anniversary, Porter's in school, and the list goes on and on. September sux!!!
I'm making an honest effort, but I probably won't know until the weekend before. Let me know if I can do a last minute thing! (If Joe can't make it, I might be able to talk Nico into letting me run up with Luckie... then again, it's never good to leave the 2 of us unchaperoned!!!
Liz,
The end of the road deadline is going to be when we give final numbers to the cooks for the food....
probably about 10-14 days before the event.
but I think we can keep you on the maybe list. I think they will be a little flexible with us, and I would be happy to assist with that as late as possible.
we will work it out
how about you and I chat as things get closser.

Do we need to nail this???
Come on folks!
Well I'm still straddling the fence,
biggest reason to want to go and only have a AX car,way too stiff of a ride!
But go figure, I wanna Mountain bike!!
All this beer talk is slowly swaying me into GOING!
My plan is to drive the truck,so I can bring other peoples Mtn bikes as well as mine!
Well I missed the part about not accepting credit card PayPal payments (did that get added later?) So Brant has to refuse my payment and I have to send him a check. I don't mind sending him a check, but I'm sorry to have caused him extra work.
So if you're not registered yet - what's taking you so long?
Ernie,
no problem.
sorry for the inconvienience on your end!
we just did that to save a few bucks of paypal fee's so as to not have to add that into the registration cost....
KEVIN, you had better go..
truck or car you had better go!
I think I may be taking the van, so I should be able to help with bike hauling if that happens

I am personally donating a 6-pack to anyone who registers and pays between now and 08/01.
valid payapl receipt required for redemption. not available to employees of the RRC, or their family members. one six pack per vehicle.
Alright...I worked through the "you can't use a credit card to pay" issue and I'm paid and ready to go.

So we have 13 entrants. How many total do we have fo a total count? How close are we to 40 entrants?
Those 13 registrations represent a total of 24 people, including frineds and family, who will be at the Red Rocks Classic. There is still plenty of room for more. Keep those cards and letters comming in.
This may have already been asked but I'm too lazy to read the whole thread. It's $70.00 per person so if I bring my wife and daughter it will be $210.00?
Yes. $70.00 per person. But that includes 2 complete dinners (no alcohol included) and lunch on Saturday. Plus your registration packet. So in all actuality it is a steal.
So please come, and bring the wife and daughter.

Is there any way to get an idea on how many spouses and kids will be there. I think it would beneficial to all if something could be put together for them. Even something as simple as having all the kids and spouses meet at a certain time just to get to know each other. My daughter is usually cool as long as she has someone to hang out with. The wife is pretty much the same way.

My girlfriend is coming, but will be riding with me on all of the drives. We do have the hike going on on Saturday which can/will be a family event.
I realize that you may run into problems only having 2 seats, but the scenery is awesome even if you're not in a teener.
I just got a call from the Aarchway Inn. They were checking to confirm that our group was comming. They said only 3 of us have reserved a room so far: ThinAir, BMartin and VegasRacer.
When you call to book your room be sure to tell them you are with The Porsche Club. That is the only way we will get all of our rooms together and you will get the discount rate. If you have reserved a room it would be a good idea to call them back and tell them you are with our Club so you are on the right list.
You MUST call before August 25th to be sure you will get a room.
After that you are on your own.

Alright, I checked and I am good to go. They didn't have me as part of the Porsche group. That might be a good thing....no "guilt by association"!
What is this hike all about? How long? Easy? Difficult? Should I bring my climbing gear? Flare gun? Or should I just bring my usual six-pack and call it good?

Ok, I had Linda Horne send my registration dues to Brant with hers and Joe Sharp's. Linda and Joe's name are now on the "registered" list, but mine is not. Was there a problem?
Also, Tiffany at the Archway Inn said that our room was INDEED CONFIRMED under "the porsche club". So I'm thinking that someone at the Inn is not imputing the Porsche reservations correctly.

the entry fee is really all going to food, so if you want to bring a child (12 and under) and buy their child's meal seperate you won't have to pay the entry fee for them

I plan on getting there thursday before noon, and doing a Mtn Bike ride. Anyone else going to be around that early?

Thursday noon I figure I should be done with Zion, passing thur Bryce Canyon, and on my way to Capitol Reef.
I'll see you at dinner time and we can compare notes from the days fun.

I do not know how many of them have actually paid.

Living in Moab and owning the only on-the-road 914 in town (the other one is fine, but sits sadly on blocks waiting for its owner gets over his 911), I was very interested to learn about the September 914 Red Rock Classic.
Having thought for years what fun a 914 event would be in Moab, it only took me long enough to find the registration page and my VIN to get registered.
So... if anyone needs advice about getting here, activities, who actually does 914 service work it town etc. I offer my services as the one and only "local" participant.
For starters for anyone driving in from the east, never drive into Moab via I-70 and U.S. 191 which are both flat, straight, and dull. Always take UT 128, which once it gets to the Colorado River, is one of the best open car, curvy roads around. Teeners taking the LaSal Mountain Loop tour during the event will get to drive the western part of UT 128 during the weekend, but once is never enough!
For all of those beer questions, we have two Micro-breweries, Eddie McStiffs near the SE corner of Main (aka US 191) and Center and the Moab Brewery located just south of the McDonalds on the west side of US 191. The parking lot at the Moab Brewery is packed on weekends with big SUVs carrying mtn bikes. Try parking along Dogwood street just a bit farther south before the Comfort Suites.
It will likely still be fairly warm at the end of September, but not oppressive like in July. We can still have thunderstorms, so keep the Targa top in the trunk or plan to drive quickly. Last week, coming back from Telluride (another great 914 drive on UT 46), I got pretty wet when I had to slow down through Norwood, Colorado.
For those of you driving through Salt Lake City, Ed Andrews at (801) 532-3697 is Mr 914 for the region. Ed quit the SLC Porsche dealership about 30 years ago to work mostly on 914s. He still works part time in his shop, is a fountain of mechanical knowledge, and has lots of obscure parts in his bone yard.
Looking forward to seeing you in Moab.
I was so excited to see your post moab914! It will be great to have a local join us!
I just got all of my parts in and am well on my way to having my car buttoned up and ready for the drive. Still have quite a bit of work to do for reassembly, but it shouldn't be too bad.
Just about 23 days and counting...I can't wait!
Thanks for the great advice moab914!
Glad you finally found us and let me be the first to say
'WELCOME TO THE CLUB!"
Look forward to seeing you in the ever most beautiful Moab. (my favorite place for Jeep Safari! )

The Aarchway Inn had blocked off rooms for our group. After today the unused rooms will be made available to the public. If you made a reservation, please check to see that you are on this list. If you reserved a room and your name is not on the list - please post here or send me a PM. If you are planning to reserve a room - DO IT NOW. If you are going to be at the event it will be a lot more fun if we are all at the same hotel.

I have reservations and mentioned the club but right now it looks like I will not be able to attend, I just dont trust my car enough to make the trip.
Half the people coming won't even be driving 914s. Bring the daily driver and let's get another California person in on this!
I think I'll be bringing a ford focus....
so 914's are not mandatory at all!
UPDATE ON REGISTRATION
the registration deadline is coming up also people.
this is aimed not at those who have already registered but rather at the fence sitters who need to hurry up and register.
The deadline is monday.
PLEASE hurry up and register!!!!
monday 9/5 at midnight is going to be your last chance!
please please pass the word

So how many people are actually bringing a 914 to this event?
Just the really cool ones, toast!

I'm bringing a 914!
Elvira's gonna be there.
Well, us three So. Cal's are Each bringing a 914!
(Well, as far as I know anyway )
I'm bringing my teener, and Moab914, I know Ed Andrews very well, he does all the work on my car. I know of an orange 914 in Moab owned by a woman and she keeps it at the airport in one of the buildings there, I've seen the car when I was down having lunch with Ed, she brings it to SLC to have Ed do all the work on that car. Also know of a BLM employee that lives in Moab that has a 914, that wouldn't by any chance be you would it?
Looking forward to the rally.

But then again, we are talking about Slits. |
So officially we had said the deadline was monday.
I guess our registration is closed enough that we can get our reservations at the restaurants...

Once we have the final numbers, somebody post or e-mail me and I will confirm with the restaurants.
Right now - chances look pretty slim that I'll be driving my 914 to Moab. I'm pretty disappointed. There's always next year right?
I'm bringing mine! For me that's the whole point - a road trip in my 914.
Ernie, are you driving from Flagstaff?

Yup. I'm not exactly sure yet of when I'll be leaving, but it will be Friday morning. Caravaning with folks from Phoenix/Tucson or anyone coming in on I-40 would be great. I made the trip about 10 days ago as far as where the 191 heads north and roads are in great shape. I'm psyched to go! |
Add one more to the list. A buddy of mine is tagging along with me. He doesn't have a 914 but the temptation of a lot of was too much for him to resist.
Sounds like good news all around. Just heard of a couple of (local) lurkers that will be joining us and I got my #3 sparkplug hole rethreaded and found a correct ecu to test on my car.
Who knows, with a little dtermination, this thing might be back on the road next week. Who knows.

I got a little (ok a lot) wrapped up in it last week and had to take some time to breathe.
Fixed one problem, tackle the other and...fingers crossed.
I'm definitely feeling better about it.
This is all great news, especially you Ben!
I have a couple of things myself, getting started this weekend.

Keep at it! You can do it! I just got my CV problem fixed last night and got to drive it today as a birthday present to myself. Pretty good gift too! |
Happy belated Birthday!
and on that happy note.
I think registration is officially closed.
(Planners, see planning thread)
the final numbers are 27.
would be neat to see more but I'm not disappointed at all.
this is great.
I can't wait to meet everyone and put faces to all of the internet names.
Were almost there everyone!!!!!!

I made my reservation via email a couple of weeks ago and realized yesterday that I never got a response.
I'm pleased to report that, as of this morning, they still have rooms available at the Archway Inn.

I have said earlier that I was planning on bringing my Mountain Bike. I have decided to make packing easier and just bring running stuff instead, so any other trail runners planning on going, give me shout if you want to find a hour or so for a "fun" off road run.
Ferg
does this mean you will be leaving on friday now?

Yes. I still want to leave as early as possible so that we can build in some time for on the road problems. I'll start a post on the yahoo site. Ferg |
Nope, Moab's only 5 hours from Denver , if you hustle that is

Lucky you!
I am leaving at 3:00 AM on Thrusday so that I can be there late thursday night. That should give me time to and get some sleep before the festivites start.
See ya there!
Still waiting to hear from the AZ group that is going.....anyone? Anyone??

The way I see it - I am the lucky one. It is gonna be just me and not one but two 914 Club cuties all day on Thursday going the twisty way through the mountains and several National Parks on our way to Moab. |
just wanted to make this green again on my screen
I'll make it green again!!!
My car runs! It will be coming to Moab!!!
I am so excited, had almost come to the realization that it wasn't gonna happen. Then it started!
Damn FI relay...
See everyone in Utah.
Wooo Hooo!
Now,
WHO IS BRINGING THEIR BATHING SUITS?
I dont want to be the only one in the hot tub like I was at WCC.

It's a good thing it's still a week away so I've got time to get ready, but I'm so psyched about it that I can hardly wait! |
Guess what was in the box that UPS just delivered to me?

Damn, I'm excited! Hope I can get some sleep this week!
Well... my hopes of driving the "new" 914 to RRC have been dashed. I was considering driving it even with the growling rear wheel bearing, but it does sound like that bearing is on the same side as...
...the swiss cheese suspension console that I found today whilst doing a valve adjustment.
At least this week won't be such a time crunch now. And if it's hot in Moab and you guys are all sweaty... I'll be in air conditioned comfort.

weather.com calls for a chance for thunderstorms for Saturday & Sunday. Let's hope it comes and goes quickly!

2 actually wish i had time to do my own valve adjustment. i am taking it in tomorrow. mechanic says i should have it back by thursday night. New rotors are going on today. |
QUOTE (ThinAir914 @ Sep 18 2005, 10:10 PM) |
It's not what you drive that counts, it's that you are there so we can see your smiling face! |
mine is in jeopardy of not going also. I need some Lugnuts for my Fuchs. The guy changing my rotors told me that the the Ebay specials i bought, are what casued the threads to get stripped. FUCH!
i needed to be able to pick up the car from him tonight so that i could drop it off at Pat's tomorrow morning for the valve adjustment.
Greg,
hit up the colorado group.
even if they don't give you or sell you a set, someone will surely let you borrow a set
unfortunately I don't have any for you
but maybe rex?
and I know peter has a set of lug nuts he got from Scott.
so someone can loan you some.
other option would be to borrow non mag wheels and use short lugs with thinner rims?

I've been keeping an eye on the weather reports on the local stations here in Salt Lake and so far they are saying a nice weekend in store for us of course that can change. Will keep you posted on the weather in Moab for the weekend.
Unless things change (like they do all the time), I will be flying on Friday. Luckie will be leaving for Moab (7 hour drive) in the morning on Friday and I'll be leaving in the afternoon. DO NOT go to sleep until I arrive....
