914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1.7L intake manifold hoses

Posted by: MM1 Nov 30 2020, 03:05 PM

I can't seem to find 1.7L intake manifold hoses - when I check fitment for my 1973 1.7L the suppliers give me the red light.

Any links/suggestions?

I read an old Pelican posting where Dave said that people had resorted to using clamps on the old hoses (despite potential expansion issues).

Nobody makes the 1.7L intake hoses any more. You can use the 2.0 hoses, but you'll need to add hose clamps on both ends of each hose. That's what I had to do on my previous car (a 1.7), and I never had any problems with the hoses or the clamps.

Thanks, Bill. Is that because the 1.8/2.0 hoses (and runners) are a larger diameter?

I bought of a foot of this and used it.

At first I sourced a generic braided hose that mimics the factory boots but it was steel reinforced and quite stiff so I didn’t bother using it. I believe I still have it if you want to give it a try.

Thank you, Doug.

Did you have to use clamps? Does it seal well?

I bought a set of 1.7 hoses from Parts Heaven before they closed and i still used clamps on them. The 1.7 and 1.8 runners are the same as far as i understand.

A car I'm working on has them in silicone. Likely find similar on ebay/china with the right ID or a VW site.

I think that he is talking about the 4 short braided hoses from the plenum to the intake runners

1.8 and 2.0 are the same diameter. 1.7 are slightly smaller.

I just finished the "kit" for my 72 that also includes the hoses in the front for expansion tank and side in the rockers. Do you need a complete kit or only from the plastic hoses in? Drop me a PM with your number I'll get you hooked up. (It's not even listed yet).

Great! already had my order in . . .can't wait to get all this Black Friday stuff and start changing hoses/seals and refinishing tins!

I forgot to get the second oil cooler seal and 914 Rubber threw it in along with giving me the sale price on the hoses above - even though my slow typing pushed me 3 minutes past midnight into early Monday- thank you, Mark, Kenzie and Team 914 Rubber - you are appreciated!

Merry Christmas and good luck on the flight schedule, Mark!

But I can't find the complete vacuum hose kit -

The only place I know that still does that is AutoAtlanta. Minus the 22mm? braided hose that goes to the oil breather as that size is NLA.
