914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Auto Atlanta 914 engine GT lid option

Posted by: Str1974 Jan 7 2021, 10:31 PM

I'm looking at getting a double engine grille for my 74 914. I've decided to buy one instead of making one from (2) engine ids- I am just not a welder...

I've looked around and found that Auto Atlanta seems to have two different versions,
GT Rear Engine Lid $660 vs. 916 Double Grilled Lid $489.96. The pictures they show on their site looks identical for both. I have tried contacting AA several times to get a better understanding, and possibly better pics of the differences. At this point the only difference is the price. Anybody purchase one of these and show some pics or describe what they look like. I really could use some insight, thanks.

Here's the pics from Auto Atlanta website...to me they look identical.

AA will not back the products they sell if there is a problem. Go somewhere else.

No welding is required to make your own

Thanks for the kudos.

Funny, but the the pictures on the first post look like GT lids I made.

Coincidence or........

I bought Sergio's lid and was very happy with it.

I don't recommend AA for anything.

"What the best way to undercoat my 914? I don't have a jack, jack stands nor access to a lift?"

Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope!

In the Doc's defense, not that he needs anyone defending him, he (originally) posted that picture himself. That was their outside steam cleaning lift/rack area. The lift failed and the car unfortunately dropped. He was totally upfront about that. beerchug.gif

Another ditto on Sergio's lids ... got one ages ago

I do have a spare stock lid in storage (LA area) if anyone really needs one.

Replacing the rusty lift with something a bit more modern before the incident, would been less expensive. Less of a hassle for sure. 'It was a beautiful car...'

Posted by: pete000 Jan 10 2021, 09:46 PM

I would imagine both lids are the same AA is selling. The higher price is for the fool and his money are soon parted crowd...I run the Sergio super light version, no complaints !
