914World.com _ 914World Garage _ SOT-EJ25 Turbo Hoses

Posted by: CBee Jan 25 2021, 09:44 PM

I recently found a high mileage '06 Subaru Baja w the Turbo EJ 25 motor.
Pulled it to do cambelt, water pump, seals, etc and not surprisingly found the turbo hoses inlet from air mass meter and outlet to intercooler hard as rocks and are showing signs of cracking.
Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket silicone hoses vs the factory hoses?
Baja motor parts appear to interchange with Foresters and WRXs.
Perrin and Grimmspeed etc are pricy and the stuff on eBay has mixed reviews for quality and fit.
I'm not thinking there is going to be much if any performance gain but if I'm going to be fighting parts that don't fit , I'll go back with stock.
I've already had a fast look on NASIOC, but didn't come up with much.

Ive used silicone hoses for a few cars. Buy a good brand if your looking for exact fit.

I personally generally go with generic hoses. I have some on my 914 turbo that have been in use for 15 years.

Lots of experience with this.
Silicone works great so long as the part is of good quality and fits right. For Subaru there are LOTS of parts vendors. Silicone is a really floppy medium so long runs at vacuum can (will) collapse. Not much a problem for turbo charged cars since it is supported by air pressure. The better parts makers make reinforced silicone hoses for anything important. I've used Perrin and Grimmseed and Subispeed without issue.
