Posted by: 930cabman Jan 28 2021, 11:08 AM

Looking for someone in or near Western New York experienced in broken head studs, and possibly rebuilding a 2.7 destined for our 914 rustout.

thanks

If you can get it across the border I'm only 2.5 hours away and my labour rate is in Canadian dollars.

If you can get it to Mark with no more brain damage than shipping it somewhere else that is an excellent option.

Eksten out of Rochester came up from a connection on Pel., they are local and stateside. Being 10 minutes from the border, I have been itching to visit several places in Ontario over the past months. Hopefully the pandemic will lessen up and the border will open. Restoration Design is near the top of my list to visit.

I had Eksten's do my 3.2 machine shop work. No issues at all. Larry (owner) has been around the Porsche scene for a very longtime. He built a friend of mines 3.2 race motor. He also rebuilt the heads in my brothers 3.0, polished crank, & inspected rods.

Nice part is they aren't too far from me so saved a few hundred in shipping costs.
Prices are fair compared to Ollie's or others out West.

It's possible the customs agents are armed. These days the Canadian Govt. is quite strict, I understand Ontario is in a lockdown currently.

Made a trip to Rochester and dropped the short block with Eksten

Then you drove right past my place.. Just off 90/490. Did you talk with Larry?

Posted by: 930cabman Jan 30 2021, 05:36 PM

Yes, I did meet Larry and a few of his workers. If the orderly appearance of a shop is any indication, I give them a +1. I dropped off a 2.7 short block I have had kicking around for a while. It was disassembled by the prior owner and showing several broken head studs. After looking at options for building a 4 cyl. I was not confident with the $$ vs the power out.
Let me know the location of your place, I would like to stop in at some point.
