914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Rear trunk lid torsion bar install

Posted by: partwerks Feb 6 2021, 10:20 PM

What is the safest way to get the torsion bars installed in the engine bay?

Use the Original Custom's tool available at 914Rubber. smilie_pokal.gif

I will do a writeup on this eventually. I did remove my hinges and documented it with pictures, but I am not ready to reinstall them yet... sad.gif

The tool and a towel to protect your paint. Be careful and wear safety glasses.

I am looking at these for an option,

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-Trunk-lid-Lift-Supports-Left-and-Right-Coupe-LH-RH-for-911-944-Pair/293292737262

Has anyone been using these? looks cleaner, less muss/fuss

I have the shocks on my DD and yes it is nice...But the original set up is way more simplistic.
I too need the tool to install.

You have to cut a slot in the outboard ends of the rear trunk seal metal.

They also make it harder to get the top into the trunk.

I personally don't like them.

agree.gif The Original Customs tool makes a difficult and dangerous job almost easy.

As a resident of a cold climate, I HATE all pneumatic struts on cars and cuss them every winter because they fail to work at sub zero temps. Been bonked in the head way too many times.

Honestly,
Why reinvent the wheel? It's definitely less stock and as the values increase, it will cost you in originality.
