I have been to Ockteener Fest, Rt 66 and West Coast Ramble. Driven my 914 through Mohab on the way home once. BUT I never have been to the Red Rocks Classic. I want to though. Pencil me in, although things can happen in the meantime. I get my second shot oin Saturday.

When I called and put my name on the reservation list a few weeks ago the girl I spoke with insisted the group was checking in Wednesday the 8th. Even after i told her that I would be there on the 9th she still put me down for the 8th. Not sure what the disconnect was but may be worth checking in on their expectations around this booking.

Still on the fence. Some how I feel that I need to be more like one of my heroes. I am not able to take more time in the drive to and from the events . It's kinda like I'm doing a task and have some sort urge to get the miles over instead of enjoying the stuff that is near my path. I do stop for Ribs though, The Shed Blue's and BBQ in Ocean Springs, MS and Tyler's BBQ in Amarillo, TX. Maybe I need to explore more but the way I see it they are numbers 2 and 3 in the country.

I had such a good time with the Rt66 crowd I really want to do this. But, my wife and I will celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary on Sept 10, and we never have been apart on that date yet. She has stuck with me to Ockteener Fest, west Coast Ramble, and flying in to Denver for the return trip for Rt66. Such heroism is hard to find.

Kent, that is the plan for now, but I need to start getting some miles on the car soon to build confidence given all the changes I have made recently. If that doesn’t happen will probably trailer it up just to be safe.

Here is little trick I use for SiriusXM. After the first year they automatically re-enrolled me for some absurd amount. $300 IIRC. It was part of the agreement I agreed to when I signed up. I should have read the small print. Regardless, I asked what day my contract was up and when I needed to cancel to avoid getting into another high cost year with them. This year that date is Oct 5th. Anyway, for the past 4-5 years I call a few days ahead of time and they always ask if I want to renew. I ask "How much" then decline saying, "Nah, it's my wife's car and she doesn't use it that much". Every time they come back with one of those promotion fee specials for about $80 a year. Then I give in and say "sure, why not".

Be sure to put 3 hours non-stop driving on it. Also, any short stop 'n goes between now and then. If it passes that test I'd say your good to go.

Ok...kinda bummed out.

I was planning on this but thought I could combine two things in Moab this September.

My wife has a new Bronco on order....we think still...and the "Off Roadeo" is in Moab but we won't be there until the 15th. So....have fun ya'll unless any are staying through that week.


I had to break down since she goes to my P car events. Happy wife... happy life. With that said we are taking the F car and not the P car.

More extreme stupidity than extreme sport. Down in Zion, came off an ebike after a bump i didn't see and didn't stick the landing. Well technically I landed perfectly on my feet but the knees were not up for it and both popped almost simultaneously. I should have extended my "no 2 wheel motorized vehicle" rule to include E-bikes, sure seemed like a handy thing to have while camping though.

At the moment I can drive and get around ok but the Dr wants to do the left side first and is saying the sooner the better so if I move forward now using a clutch is out for me for the foreseeable future.

If knees were the only issue it probably wouldn't be to hard to sort out a solution but the family picked up some sort of bug a couple weeks ago. I didn't think much of it at the time as the major symptoms passed quickly, but I turned out being the "lucky" one and seem to have some ongoing issues as a result of that.

So far no answers from the doctors, just theories, and the theories they have dont have solutions other than "wait and see". So, with so many unknowns its hard to plan even 2-3 weeks out.

Think my biggest reservation at this point is if I have some issue with the car in the middle of nowhere, do I really want to have to deal with that AND the other things I am already dealing with? Normally car issues in the middle of nowhere are part of the fun for me, but everything else is just sort of sucking the life out of me at the moment unfortunately and "fun" just sounds exhausting.

Looking to get some 2nd opinions here in the next week. I may still make it, I just don't know. Its Just been a rough couple of months.

So bummed i wasnt able to make it, especially with it being so close. Took this whole week off work with plans to go down there but life is what it is.

Next year, hopefully have the health stuff sorted by then.



At least im using the time to be productive. Pulled this ol girl out of storage. Been a couple years, dont think i have really driven her since RRC in Colorado a couple years ago.

On the plus side I put a battery in, re-instaled the MPS that i "borrowed" for the bumblebee, cycled the key to load the fuel rail and she started on the first compression stroke! Didnt even have to get in the car!

Moving to a new storage unit because holy crap the construction near this site has made a huge mess!

Now off to the car wash!

Home safe. We were flat towing my car and hit had a blowout 10 minutes after we left the house. SO, the car got tucked back into the garage and we took Waide's truck with nothing in tow. Here is the reason we flat tow - I have been stuck in this mess twice over the years in my 914. Never again. I17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix. Almost every. Single. Weekend. There is an accident that brings traffic to a halt and you end up sitting with no AC surrounded by a bunch of hot engines. Today it hit 109 degrees while we were stopped.

Took a couple of days after RR to do some hiking and got home last night. Many thanks to Sharon, Mike, the Friday night chefs and everyone else who helped make another great event! Great to see old friends and make some new ones. Can't wait till next year!

Great pix. Guess I won't feel too bad if I drive my 981 spyder instead of a 914 to the Route 66 drive next spring... at least the engine is in the right place!
