I have been gone for a few years. Transferred back and forth, ATL-OKC-ATL.
4 years in OKC, then a year on the road and then a year off working on fixing up the old homestead ,selling and then buying all over again.
Covid shut us in and somewhere along the line I gathered up my car, put back in my garage and stared at it for awhile.
Then brillance struck!!!! ?????? %^^&&$%^$^%^&%
Pull out the Suby turbo and start over!! Of course... Brillant.
Exorcised the ghosts, fresh plan, new parts, Blank slate.
Found a 4.8l truck motor cheap and rebuilt and customized for 914.
Found a boxster 6 speed and adapter set up here. ValcoOscar, Thank you.
BigKat filled in the blanks with 930 axles..
We have the tech, we can reebuild!!!!

was going to go stock ecu and picked up a Wire Harness from Ebay.. Chinese but looks good.
Decided to go Holley terminator X for ECU and Harness. Hand Held and self tuning. These days faster and easier is better!!!
Harness will be going up in parts section if not sold locally. First come first serve. Was $240..... call it $200
Other wise making room for the engine, shifter cables and lots of little stuff. Need to take apart engine and tranny to install tranny pins and tighten up all the conversion plate bolts.
From what little I can see in the pics, looks like you have a great platform for such a build.
Only ever driven one V8 914 and I liked it. The rumble of 8cyls behind you was pretty cool.
well that is welcome back! i am subscribed!
missed your first reposts a few weeks back but looking forward to seeing this go in. Bob(Bigkat) has an awesome V8 LS conversion as well , so i am sure he can advise you on the journey. that’s going to be scary with almost 500hp wow!!

Engine in place
I'm now going through the wiring I had to cut and figure out what wasnt finished from 5yrs ago!!!
a wiring I will go!! Slowly but surely finishing all the wiring. Added new fog lamps, hella horns for a little protection and Firewall grommets to help with routing. I also need to cover up that hole. That was from my previous tranny!
Where in Atlanta are you?
riverdale down by the airport... need any parts??? going to have a garage sale soon.. its a pay forward kind of thing
Making sausage! Arranging computer, relays and such as neat and efficient as possible. Making headway. Can't really finish until I fix that hole first.
Cleaned and small re-design. Finished for now waiting final connections.
Questions...:
What mirrors are on the doors?
What clutch / flywheel / pressure plate are you using? (Please be very specific)
Thanks!
setting up dash.. added in the hand held for the Terminator-x.
The race is on. Retiring in June. It used to be joke on which got here first. Finish the car or retire!!!
Using some old corvette seats for on the road, Comfy and a bit of flash. Test fitting some things
Fleshing out new one. Gas door, riveted louver this time( newer design) flush fit hood pins.
Ooooh. That looks like one of Bob’s engine mounts . I been begging/bothering my poor friend for one for a while:)
on the ground for a bit , final debugging new wiring. starting on the exhaust and final brake work.

Digidash for my dash
That's a great looking effects box you've got there...
two forward one back!! Car almost ready to go to tuners.
-replace brake switch and wire
- residual valve for clutch
- resolve shifting issue, might be the cable
- trouble shoot blinkers after led upgrade.. might be a fuse.
- a couple of nuts an bolts
A bit slow these days messed up left hand with a circular saw.. lost part of thumb and working on getting fingers working again.. can you say dumb ass moment!!
upgraded to full led lights.... fronts by 3dgauto!
do to my recent mishap, son, came up for a name for the garage... kids you gotta love em
Maybe I missed it, but what were your decision factors for pulling out the Subaru and going with the V8?
The patina is awesome. Take care of your fingers. They cannot be replaced. How many were damaged?
Finally got the car moving... Took it off to tuning.. 325 at rear wheels..
Now going through and fixing all the ugh ohs that I find from 18 years of building and various levels of skills. On my third pressure switch for brake lights!!! finally figured out how to test before new one goes in.
Bunch of little electrical issues.. I pulled a bunch of the looming re-doing things. Of course with the hand looming is a time consuming process!
Also nut and bolting make sure everything is tight and out of the way. Had to replace the boxster tranny, issues going into reverse. We are going to see what we might be able to do to fix????
Now thats it on the ground after all these years I need a hard hat!! I keep running my head into the open hood!!
Got to take it around the block a few times!! lots of fun.
That has a serious outlaw look, nice!
thanks. started a little down that road and just kept going!!
Very impressive end result.... Rather menacing looking vehicle for sure and obviously enough power to back up the looks. Would like to see a video of it running/driving if you get a chance... Congratulations!
It’s simple. I love it!
Drive it like you stole it!
18 something years, multiple relos, kids in college and a general lack of talent, she lives!!! v8 powered 914. bare metal resto, rewired(what was i thinking) engine and tranny swap. maiden voyage outside of neighborhood. successful round trip. now to keep debuggIng.
I have to give some major kudos to Robert J. Bischoff for his help and patience with my car and me.. Did I mention Im not the most talented guy around here. besides the fact Im an ex-salesman who talks way too much!!! Thanks Bob!!!!!!!
Congrats very nice 5.3 excellent choice.
And...
No one has mentioned that the baby 3.27" stroke crankshaft IS the ticket to higher RPM.
Its only problem is its lack of low-end torque!
It can STILL make north of 300lbs./ft above 2500 RPM.
It just can't make 500+ like many Gen 3 and up do.
So, it's best used in a light car with high RPM gearing...
I wonder where we can find such a car?
I don't think the stock crank could take it but if I was building a short stroke (modern) GM V8 I'd be hunting an 8500 redline.
Stock crank would be 7500...
Car looks KILLER. Got a bit of "Mad Max" going on there!
agreed but big torque in our little cars ... is bit beyond me. infact i did cam it to move the graph to the right. even at 300 ft lbs 325 hp it's going to be a handful. I have short driving time as of yet but trying to figure out what gear ur in is a little tuff. it just pulls in all
