I've seen posts that say the water cooled flat 4 or 6 motors won't fit but what about the V6 and v8's from Cayennes and Panameras?
Cayenne engine fits. Just need to make a few small mods. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=206097&hl=
Subi motor makes more sense, unless your trying to keep it Porsche.
I posted this last week - ad says it's a water cooled Boxter 6:

New pics of motor though.
Photos of engine toward the end... it is in a 914!! I'd love to know how they crammed that in there!
I’m toying with trying to fit the 3.6 v6 from the Panamera. 300 hp. A pretty engine and it’d meet the “all Porsche” target, if that’s what you’re after. Issues include eliminating the sump, which is quite deep. It’d need to be dry sumped. I’ve cut the ring gear off a Panamera manual flywheel (it’s a unique tooth count and size) and spoken with Kennedy Engineering about using it in making the adapter plate, flywheel and clutch components to mate the engine to a Boxster 6 speed (G86-20). That stuff is all doable, just time and money. And then it’s working out a stand alone ECU set up. Again, doable.
I’ll post details if/when I proceed. Pm me, if that would help. I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned so far.
That place isn’t very far from me; I wonder if the car is still there...
Would be cool to have a look
I know Renegade Hybrids loves to put V8's into 914s, I need to ask him about the 4.8 Cayenne motor and see what he thinks.
