Trial #2
Several people here have asked me about my signiture so I thought I would attempt to have a thread on the idea of a Christian based Sports car club. I'm looking for ideas and guidence on starting a club.
I will not attempt to push my religion on anyone not even talk about Christian ideal on this board. This is mainly a feeler to see if anyone is interested and to aquire email address' and contacts for those interested in such an idea.
PLEASE, don't use this thread to start a debate over religions and such. If that happens again, I'll just delete the whole thing again. Thank you.
So, What do you think of CISCO?

Fuck You SEAN if Politics shouldnt be tollerated on this board than Religious Prostelizing shouldnt be tloerated either :finger: |
I agree 1000% - there is no compromise to be when these two hot button topics are discussed. - Jim ( peace out
the initial post solicited opinions about a CAR CLUB. sheesh.
there's all kinds of car clubs with various special interests.
i understand there's even one for Porsche owners.
i see no reason why groups of like-minded individuals should not be allowed to meet for any legal, nonviolent purpose. i see nothing wrong with MENTIONING that such an organisation is being discussed.
Dave's PM and email links work. if you're interested, he's not hard to get hold of. if you're not, don't.
this is not even a thread about religion. it's about like-minded people of a certain faith getting together. what's the harm? i'm not at all religious, and i think this is a great idea.
Ever seen the "RFC" decals on dragsters?
I say let the thread stand. No one is pushing anyone to do anything.
We all have gotten a little closer to God when working on these cars anyway.
P
I say let the thread stand, too.
Among all the other things tolerated here, this certainly should be. Especially if it's not even DISCUSSING religion or its tenents!
Please put my vote in for Godspeed, too. Far better than CISCO and a cool word with a great meaning, too.
Peace to all,
pete
there are car clubs and christian clubs, I think combining them is a fine idea...
and this thread isn't petitioning that we become christians... let it stand.
Were part of RFC (like paul said, racers for christ)
But, Me and dad are behind you in every way.
Godspeed is cool.
We currently have a website that dad bought that was for this purpose, but didnt get any attention. Its currently blank.... www.teamgracer.com We just host pics and vids from it now.
Andrew
i mean, how is it different than "beer drinkers car club" etc.....
1 group of people....1 common interest....
awesome idea guys!
You could also do a very cool graphic logo, say black background, simple white font, and two red stripes, one on top of the word and one below it?
I can see it, but someone with skills can probably cook it up -- as well as a few others. Make it in a few sizes...
pete
I like the Godspeed thingy. I probably wouldn't fit in your club very well, but that doesn't mean you can't have it.
M
I guess I don't get the point of having a religious car club. Is the point to talk about cars or religion? In my opinion when you tack on religion (especially a specific religion) to any club then the club becomes exclusive and non-welcoming to all people.
I'm going to start a Pagan Racing club.
... wait, it's just me? FUCK.
"Godspeed" is a good idea for your group. But what about the faster guys?

YIPES!
I leave you all alone for a few hours and this is what happens.
The name isn't important right now. I know how upsetting any talk of religion can be to this club in particular and to people in general which is why I'm mainly interested in getting names with contact information of those interested. PMs are fine, Email is good. Cell works too.
CISCO is a name that came to me one day a few months ago. It is a common name and in this case and acronim (SP?) so it can not be copyright protected.
Purpose is to get a following of people with similar interests together. Together in this day in age is a wide spectrum. It can mean actual gatherings or Just another contact. I don't know where this will take me. I won't exclude anyone but I won't cater to everyone. If you're interested, let me know and we'll start talking. If You're not interested, then read no more.

clubs are by definition exclusionary. otherwise, it's just "the human race." look at us here - we're pretty intolerant of people who think, generally, that all Porsche owners are snobs and 914's are crap. if you don't see the point, you probably wouldn't fit in there very well. i *do* see the point, and i probably wouldn't fit in there very well. because there are so many places where religion is "off limits," i can see that people who feel outwardly and openly faithful would grow tired of having to be "politically correct" all the time. if there are a bunch of car guys who'd like an enviroment in which they can feel comfortable having a group prayer before a rallye, or a dinner, or whatever, cool. there's that 'freedom of association' concept in the constitution. |

I have a server with a forum software (completly customizable in PHP) already ready for you to go. I *LOVE* this idea.....
PM me and I'll set you up in like 10 seconds.
Good idea. I like the name Godspeed. Sounds better than CISCO. Everyone makes good points except those intolerant few.
I was thinking it would be cool to have an Eastern Philosophy club called the Blazing Buddhists. Man think of the mental excercizes we could have before AX and track days. ...one with the car.
I guess the thing I like about car culture is that it cuts across religious and cultural boundries. It would seem awfully boring to me to be surrounded with people who share similar ideologies. But certainly isnt anything wrong with it. It is a way however of excluding people who dont share your beliefs no matter how you spin it.
Count me in Dave. I need a change.

I thought there already was one.. All of 'em.
After all, we all pray to "our lady of blessed acceleration" (nod to the Blue Brothers) every Sunday morning when the green flag drops.
That's all I'm gonna say on the matter....no, I'm not interested though...
-Josh2
right but in this case, you canna copyright a acronym....so Christian Insipred Sports Car Club is A-OTAY.....
of course CISCO has a copyright on the name though.....
I'd say it's okay though. If the admin gets a email, it'll be changed.
with that being said, NARP is now regestered to me.

Miles,
How long can you tread water?
Goats can swim?
No matter how long, prolly just short of my needs.
Goats don't swim, but if you pump them up... they float.

well said. |
No discussion of religion in this one, just an observation. Isn't the very idea of a car club, or any club for that matter, (porsche, rat rod, street rod, Harley, pinochle, bridge, rugby...) exclusive in that it appeals to a narrow segment of the overall population, and that in that "exclusivity" folks that share a common inerest or belief can bond and fellowship? Otherwise, why have PCA, SCCA, NHRA, NASCAR, ad infinitum?
David, I PM'ed you earlier, and will again. Thank you for allowing this idea to take root and offer something to those who feel the need for this fellowship. I enjoy this board (although some of the posts and smilies I could do without, just my own feelings, not trying to limit anyone or impose my own sense of propriety on anyone else), and will continue to be a part of it. But I am excited about this other avenue to further enjoy this "addiction" we all seem to share, the sports car itch.
David
ok, if you guys are going to do this jesus club at least keep the little boys out of it!!

IMHO - There are plenty of Biker Clubs for Christ ...
Why-not teeners too ?... Not all Christians are Right-wing nut-jobs!
or Psyco- kiddie- abusing- Priest... Most are good people, who have a deep sense of spiritual life, beyond the facade of popular culture.
That being said, the name CISCO, just sucks... I've worked with CISCO & been to CISCO... you can do better than that.... God's Speed is way better... or
Via Con Dios.... Count me in with name edit.

Name:
Having an acronym is important to me. The name "just came to me" one night and felt it was appropriate. Cisco was also the name of my Dad's last guide (Seeing Eye) dog. I had Cisco for several years after my Dad died (@47 btw). Cisco was a wonderful animal and helped me through some rough times. It wasn't until I had out the club name on paper that I made the connection.
CISCO

Howard, i was kidding.
I think you'll be fine. It's a simple banner change if the company comes looking for a small religious-based sport car club....we arent selling anything so i dont think big brother is goign to come knocking.

go and sign up.
peace....
Dave... a bump for you.

I'd be interested. I like GodSpeed much better than CISCO. Everytime I see CISCO I think Crisco and somehow vegatable shortening just doesn't sound exciting/attractive.
it's cisco for now. i can change it and have it working almost instantly
it's all working, just hop in and give your opinion.
