914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Any OEM design 911 muffler up to a 2.4L fit?

Posted by: Tdskip May 30 2021, 03:58 PM

From the research I’ve done it appears that 2.4L and earlier 912 mufflers fit our /6 builds but I wanted to double check.

Thanks!

Any 911 muffler will fit with the /4 rear valence. If you have a six porthole valence, it will only work with a /6 muffler.

...with @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=1143 . Also, if you're doing a GT tribute then no rear valence needed of course.

BTW - do you need a muffler? I have a ceramic coated Tesh single outlet muffler sitting in storage. PM me if interested...

Tom,

912 mufflers do NOT fit any 911 or 914-6 application.

Let me know if you need a stainless quiet tech muffler.

This is a 912 muffler

One Exception. 1976 912E muffler will fit. It is the same part as a 2.0 914.

Not the same. Similar but will not bolt up to any 911/914/6 solution nor the 914/4.
The Body of the muffler is identical, the flanges are specific to the 912e one yrs only HE's. They are still 3 bolt attachment but upside down from the /4 mounting.

Oh geez, there was a typo in my original post. I intended to write 911 hence the 2.4L reference.

In any case thanks for the responses and information!

I always thought it was the same muffler.
I am going to check this out next time I am at my friend's shop. He has a 912E.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=9892 Ben before I begin a exhaustive (see what I did there shades.gif )search, I figure Ill ask the muffler expert.
Do you know if the spacing / or tube inlet measurement is the same for the 914/4 & 912e muffler variants ?
In other words if I mod a 914 2.0L banana to apply the correct flanges for the 912e will it attach / fit the 912e HE's?

They are not the same. 912e is about the craziest setup on the planet. They come in at an angle. Could it be modified to work ? Yes for sure. Would be a bunch of work. I could see that as a 8-10 hour project to ensure everything lines up , trial fit, weld etc.

People have done it but it’s not worth it to hire out to a pro. Buying new is cheaper.
