We need a few of these and the local autoparts stores have never seen anything like them. Is there a secret stash somewhere?
What year? There's early and late. Here's what I used on my '74.
Incandescent (Hella 635):

These shoudl work as well.
LED:

I think these may be the same pinout too:

For a 70 six and a 72 1.7
Can anyone confirm that the LED lights work on a '72 914? I don't have bulbs on my car so I can't check the part number. Or if someone has the original bulbs - can you post the part number?
Here is a direct replacement bulb made in Germany
Jahn 1241
F2/35w/BA20s
Correct wattage and base

The LED bulbs won't work. BA20s is the proper bulb not BA20d
As mentioned:
BA20s is the proper bulb not BA20d
BA20s is a single filament and has one contact point on the bottom
BA20d is a dual filament and has two contact points on the bottom similar to the 1157 tail light bulbs
the base diameter and side pins are the same size
this is a pic of the BA20s

I ended up using Hella 635 bulbs from Jeg's, 99c each (plus shipping) off eBay. Looks like they're single-contact.
what makes a difference is the height of the filament from the base....this is what changes the relation to the reflector and then the way the light comes out of the lens.....that's why lots of the LED replacement bulbs like for the H4 headlights end up with crazy light patterns....in our fog lights probably not too much of a problem though
