914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Found oil leak

Posted by: MattR Jul 24 2005, 07:15 PM

I pulled the fan housing off today while the engine was in the car and I think I found my leak: its coming from the oil filter housing. I pulled the housing off and the gasket seperated on the way off. Does anyone know where to find a replacement gasket quick? Is there anything I should look for while Im reinstalling to prevent leaks? I used Permatex 3H as my sealent. Is there something thats better?

Matt,
Try Mesa Performance in Costa Mesa. 800 221 MESA. If they don't have something, they can usually get it by the afternoon if you call them in the morning. I doubt they would have this kind of a part in stock but I bet they can get it for ya.
Cheers, Elliot

why not making it yourself?

Gasket paper and a sharp knife or little scissors should work.
slightly oil the surface of the oilfilter housing and "stamp" it on the paper.
cut it out... and you have a new gasket.

Try Locktite 518 and no gasket. Just be sure the surfaces are clean.
