914World.com _ 914World Garage _ gas tank restoration

Posted by: rgalla9146 Aug 2 2021, 02:24 PM

Some time ago one of the restoration threads here included pictures of a 914 fuel tank
that was done by tank specialist shop.
There were pictures of the interior of the tank that showed a perfect uniform
grey/bare metal surface.
I'm hoping someone remembers and can direct me to that thread or the specialist
that did the work.
Anyone ?
TIA
Rory

I have used Evaporust to restore gas tanks. Takes 2-3 gallons and you need to seal all openings. Rotate it to rest on bottom, each side, top bottom, and ends. You can dilute it with water to get a higher fill line. Drain, rinse and dry with a heat gun or sun to avoid flash rust. Wa lm mart carries it at the best price.

If you get it to bare metal, throw in a small bottle of MMO and rotate it around. The cleaner you get the metal, the quicker it will flash rust. At least here on the east coast.

Why not buy a Dansk and be done with it? That's the route I had to take after my tank was sealed and leaked.

The smell of gasoline wreaked havoc in my house since the car was in the garage.

I’ve used Gas Tank Renu before with good results. For about $220 the new ones are probably cheaper and easier

I don’t think the Dansk tanks match the early tanks. That might be important in this case.

Actually my brother Tom needs to get the original tank for his '32 Ford done
Glens results immediately came to mind.
Thanks to all for the help.

The late Dansk tanks are identical. I thought AA reached out to them and had them fix the tanks. But who knows what’s in stock. Otherwise it was a cheap and easy swap for my late tank.
