Ok guys, we are getting close! IF you are going, please message me with you email and cell number. You won't get spammed, I promise! I just want to be able to send out direct communication about the drive. I will also send out my home address for the Thursday BBQ. Thanks!
In keeping with the tradition of the Route 66 event, this will once again be a multi-destination run. Here's the run down -
Thursday April 21st - Arrive in Scottsdale for BBQ and shenanigans
THURSDAY NIGHT HOTEL in Scottsdale - The Aiden by Best Western. Rooms are $119/night. Tell them you are with the Porsche Club. https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/scottsdale/hotel-rooms/aiden-by-best-western-scottsdale-north/propertyCode.03169.html
Friday the 22nd, Depart Scottsdale and head for the hills! Fountain Hills that is. Check out the world's largest fountain and then blast up the Beeline Highway through the saguaros and past Roosevelt Lake. We eventually take on all the twists and turns of Salt River Canyon and call it a day in the cool pines of Show Low, AZ.
FRIDAY NIGHT HOTEL in Show Low - The Days Inn. Rooms are $95-$105/night. Tell them you are with the Porsche Club. https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/days-inn/show-low-arizona/days-inn-show-low/overview
Saturday the 23rd - Depart Show Low and drive through the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the World(yes, you read that right!) as we cross the Mogollon Rim making our way through Payson and then finally historic Cottonwood for Saturday night.
SATURDAY NIGHT HOTEL - Super 8 - BOOK NOW as this is their high season and they would not hold very many rooms for me! Sunday the 24th - Call it a weekend and head home!
These are some of the twistiest and most scenic roads in AZ, hope you can make it! More specifics will follow but we didn't want you to use "You didn't have enough notice" as an excuse to not go!

It usually is. It was 98 on April 4th this year. We don't drive around much with the Targa off if the sun is up.

I'm usually ready to get home by Sunday so nothing out of the way for me.
Not me.
By Sunday I am all revved up and ready for more.
MapQuest says less than 300 miles and 5 hours.
I figure 2 days and 800 miles to get back home to Las Vegas.
Count on a blast into Oatman with a bonus night in Laughlin plus ? ? ?

No tour planned this time around. That said, he is restoring a real 916....so if you want to come in early and check it out, I'm sure he would show you around!

Wow, looks like a great drive! Back to my old stomping grounds when the "Porsche Bug" bit and I bought my first 914 1.7 and first 914-6.
I'm putting it on my calendar and would love this drive with everybody. However, my 914-6 just went in last week for an engine rebuild and some restoration work and won't likely be done until May. Perhaps I could tail along in my 2001 Boxster S??? (with AC!)
Will keep an eye on the site to see news and hotel information. Thanks for all of your efforts to organize this drive!

Wife and I are doing a pre-run. As luck would have it, Concourse in the Hills was today in Fountain Hills, one of our stops. This 3.6 was on display :-)

Unfortunately, my wife has a medical condition that doesn't allow me much free time to play away from home these days, so I won't be making any long duration events for the foreseeable future.
I've always enjoyed the Rt-66 Runs that I've been able to attend, even without a road-worthy 914 
... and of course, the camaraderie of it's participants. Have a GR8 time ...

Feel free to book anywhere. I just got this place because they were willing to set aside a block of rooms for a one night stay during their peak season. Their rates are normally $280 at this time.

This is their high season and this is the only hotel I could find that would set aside a block of rooms for only a one night stay. Their rates are normally $280 at that time. However...if you are volunteering to find us a better deal, have at it!

If anybody wants to park a trailer at the end near Cottonwood send me a PM. My BIL has a house in Camp Verde just off Rt 260 (about 20 minutes from Cottonwood and on the planned route). There's a circular driveway so it will be easy to get in and out in a quiet neighborhood. It's a 90 minute drive from Scottsdale.

We're taking that way home...won't be in a 914 though. Presently a Kia Sorento but if it arrives in time, a 2022 Challenger GT. And driving through Oak Creek both ways is never a bad idea!

Ok I'll be in AZ then!....I'll be in Scottsdale in the Morning for the drive to ShowLow.
Staying overnight in ShowLow and then back to Prescott.
Anyone driving north/west back is welcome to stop by in Prescott on Sunday.

[size=7]If allowed, I would like to tag along in my Boxster as the proposed route starts in Scottsdale where one of my homes is located and passes by another in Chaparral Pines outside of Payson – so not sure where I would catch up but would like to see the gang of misfits yet again.
Bring a cooler / it will be warmish in April....
No 914 presently (see below)………. but I recall my 914 sold on or about the 21st of April 2021 and the weather was great at that time.

We had 914s, 944s, 911s, Caymans, Cayennes, etc show up last year. Driving a 914 is encouraged but not required.
The road to buying my new house has had a few bumps and a bruise or two. The closing has been pushed back to sometime between now and April 8th. I am still planning on having trailer parking for anyone who needs it.

For now, I am in for the drive but have to get confirmed the move of a second post appt. on my transplant surgeries on the 22nd. looking forward to tagging along in my Boxster. At lease it is mid engine..............

* Specially the Cottonwood hotel at $283 
The other 2 nights not such a big deal.
Also I might have an open seat or need an open seat, never really know with a 914...

the rate should have been about $40 lower than that for us. Did you confirm that was the group rate? And sorry about the one hotel being more expensive, but that was every where I called. How Scottsdale is cheaper is a mystery to me!

$249 before taxes. $10 extra for double beds I think. Yes, should be the Porsh club rate.
The whole area is booked according to Expedia. It is what it is. Driving the 914 will save me $80 in gas though
It's tradition for me to fix someone's car at events... I'll just have to bill them for it this time

I would like to join a caravan, say beginning at the previous caravan starts in Corona - Mcdonald's parking lot, 1215 Magnolia Av, near the intersection of the 91 and the 15. Journey to Scottsdale is approx. 6 hours. So Start at say 10:00am or ?

and swore I'd never do that again
just busy right now
and looking at my travel itinerary with 4 days of commute to and fro
I just don't think I can be gone that long right now
with all of the short staffing and extra responsibilities I'm covering at work.

I can not get the 914 into the body shop before this event so Nathan and I will be driving a slightly bent 914.
As of 3:21 this afternoon I have space for anyone who needs to park a trailer in North Phoenix for the event.

Less than two weeks to go! It will be warm here in Scottsdale but don't worry, it cools off perfectly in the evenings and we head for the high country Friday morning!
Food for Thursday will be Mexican. We have an awesome guy that cooks everything fresh on site, beef, pork and chicken. We will also have your basic drinks but if you are fancy and need something specific, please bring it along!

Looks like there are approximately six of us traveling from Southern Cal. I would like to join a caravan, say beginning at the previous caravan starts in Corona - Mcdonald's parking lot, 1215 Magnolia Av, near the intersection of the 91 and the 15. Journey to Scottsdale is approx. 6 hours. So Start at say 10:00am or ?

I still have an extra bed for each of the 3 nights if you need a room last minute. I have a likely for Fri in Show Low, if no one wants to split accommodations for the whole event.

My 914 is out. The VW ball popped and if I haven't actually been dealing with the early signs of head gasket/crack/warpage on a 20k motor I will be now.
Don't suppose someone in Vegas has a Porsche I can borrow? Or Prescott as that's on the route?

Hi Mike,
Thanks so much for all of your information. I am glad that I'm going to be able to come over to Phoenix. As I mentioned, I can only come for the BBQ tomorrow night and won't be able to enjoy the wonderful drive you have planned for everyone.
I appreciate being able to still come and meet up with some more enthusiastic 914 lovers. Some I will know from some other 914 events but most I won't likely have met before.
Since my 914-6 is still apart and at the machinist now, it's still going to be 2-3 months before it is finished.
So, I'll be coming in our 2001 Boxster S (Lapis Blue) that I got last October. This will be it's first long trip. I'll likely be coming via the 8 east to Gila Bend and then head up towards Phoenix/Scottsdale.
Talked briefly to John about his trip from Las Vegas. Not sure what the main Southern California gang is doing.
Again, thanks so much for all of your hard dedicated work...... looking forward to seeing you all! Safe journey!

Of all the events I have attended, this one had the best high speed challenging mountain "twisties" driving, ably lead by Mike, at speeds well over 80 MPH and exceeding 100 in a few instances with clear no traffic on-coming. This seriously put our cars to the test.
The series of mini Great Canyons added fantastic viewing along the way. Thanks for all your efforts Mike.

It was the main reason i didn't make it to RRC in September. 9 months later and im still suffering with some of the crap remnants from that virus!
Thankfully everyone else in my house didnt seem to get the same long term effects/damage from it that i did.

My nieghbor in AZ has this issue. She totally stopped drinking and anything that might cause an inflammatory issue. She lost 30 lbs. and got over any nagging symptoms. It was shocking thing to do but apparently helps.
