All,
There seem to be lots of events out west, and on the east coast. But nothing here in the Texas area. So I am thinking about a Texas hill country drive the weekend of April 22, 2022. It would be like the Talimena tours in the past. No awards, no banquet, no nothing. Just show up Friday night, go for a drive on Saturday, cookout in the hotel parking lot on Saturday night (if they let us), and go home on Sunday.
Here is the potential route:
The route is about 4 1/2 hours and incorporates the Twisted Sisters roads. They are not Tail of the Dragon, but they are twisties. Tenative lunch stop at the http://bentrimgrill.com/index.htm This is a motorcycle/car club friendly restaurant outside Leaky, TX.
Let me know if you are interested in showing up. And if your 914 is on jack stands, show up anyway. Bring anything from a Motorcycle, a Miata, or your tow vehicle/daily driver. We will probably have a 914 BS session in the parking lot that night, so bring pictures and questions for discussion.
Hope a lot of you are interested. I think it will be fun!

Damn Clay, you have my attention and I'm 1200 miles away. Plus, I could visit family and grandkids whilst there. The Texas Hill Country is packed with great roads and now some wineries. The Kerrville cops run a tight ship so security will be good. And the food.............I think I'm talking myself into this one.
I'd be interested Clay. Not sure if it would be with the 914-6, 911, or Boxster.
That sounds like a great route. Katie and I would definitely be up for something like that. We can't do the weekend of April 15th though. That's Easter weekend and we'll be busy with multiple rehearsals and services. The weekend after (or 2) would be great though!
This is 6 months away. So everything is subject to change and discussion. I didn't realize that was Easter weekend, so it could be done on a different date.
Clay
Sounds good… hopefully my current project will be ready - maybe I’ll use the trip as a target. But I’d probably make it either way.
.
The scenery in that area is amazing. Wish I had a proper car ready worthy of the drive.
Great Plan Clay !! It's got my attention so I would be thrilled to join this ride.
I was Bummed that I didn't get to make it to the Dragon trip.
We have alot of members in Texas !!
Hopefully the Wildflowers will be in bloom then.
Camp wood to twisted sisters nw corner looks like a dirt road ? What state or county Rd is that stretch?
That will be a fun drive! I possibly can make it depending on work and Spring XC Texas series races. I spend many hours driving the Hill Country in my mighty 1.7 as well as my 986.
All roads are paved, IIRC they were applying "chip seal" last Spring on a few of those roads.
I like it
WHAT? No Luckenbach?
Lukenbach is 45 min away from Kerville. Just head down FM 16 toward Fredericksburg and make a right on HWY 290
I have been to Lukenbach. I was not impressed. If it weren't for that song, it would have faded away by now.
There is no "official" route or anything like that. So you are welcome to go visit Lukenbach on your own.

May the ghosts of Jerry Jeff and Willie and Waylon and the boys haunt you.
Might be a good excuse to visit my sister-in-law in Boerne come April and take this weekend drive in. Bring the -6 would depend on weather between W. Colorado and Tejas.
Drive those roads often, but appreciate another excuse to do so. I'd be interested.
I'd definitely like to be there, though the 914 will probably still be on jack stands. I'll find something to drive.

Have any of you attended the Hill Country Rallye (www.hillcountryrallye.org)? Based in Kerrville, happens around this time, and welcomes teeners. March 10-13 2022..... its our 20th anniversary event. If you are looking for a small, intimate event this may not be it. there will be 200-300 air cooled classic Porsche cars from 49-89.
i live nearby and need to drive my car a bit to be sure it is road worthy so keep us posted as to date, time and place as you fine tune the plan.
OK.. So we are planning for April 22-24th, 2022.
Routes as described.
On the calendar!
Bumping to the top so people can find it.
Clay
I'm interested.
Trying to attract more attention.
Clay
I'm afraid to let the car know about this. Within the year to Savannah GA and back, New Orleans and back. Several trips to Oklahoma, Waco, Austin, etc. Never a hiccup.
But every time I post to an event it's - a total electrical failure - Carb Fire almost burning up the car - Massive oil leaks - etc. etc. So to be safe I'm not saying when or where I'll be going so the car will be ok with it. (Probably will be there)
You might put up a sign at Zim's and Mayo's.
Ok.. I just reserved a room at the Lone Star Inn, Kerrville.

No charge to the card until check in. And you can cancel 24 hours in advance.

Route update:
I have been informed that Texas 16 from Leakey Texas back to Kerrville is uphill and not fun in a 914. But going from Kerrville to Leaky is a lot of downhill fun.
So I revised the route, and added the starting/destination point at the hotel and the lunch stop at the Bent Rim Grill. The new route is a drunken figure 8 with about a mile of duplicate road in Leakey. Almost identical, but the roads out of Kerrville and back into Kerrville have been switched.
And the route steps.

I am really looking forward to this!
Clay
That stretch looks like my last ECG test. Too fun. You all have a blast.
Reservations made @ the Hampton
Bumping again so people see it.
Come drive with us!
Giving this a Christmastime bump.
Going to bump this back up so everyone can plan to be there.
Is anyone planning on attending this run that has an empty passenger seat that would be willing to take a shotgun rider? Would love to attend the rally, but hate to think of driving my GMC Envoy in a Porsche run and my 914 is still on the rotisserie.....
We aren't sure if we are bringing 1 or 2 914s. If we bring both of them, we will have a couple of empty seats.
Clay
The 914 might still be in resto mode. OK to bring the early 911?
Thanks Clay,
Keep me posted
Clay, those dates work for me! I'm in, if you'll have me. My '74 914 just came out of a full 4 years restoration (by me). Need to get it out and finish breaking in this engine. Do we DM you to register?
No rooms available at the Lone Star Inn. Booked at the Motel 6, next door.
How about a roll call for those who are potentially going to Kerrville with us?
Clay
Betty
I'm planning to be there
So far, we only have four people responding that they will be attending?
Clay
Betty
aharder
don-6
Who else is thinking about attending?
I will have an open seat if someone is coming without a 914
Work schedule permitting, hoping to make it up for a day trip from Corpus.
Have fun, ya’ll!
Gosh-if only this event were held around July 4th. . .of course it’ll be a bit warmer then. . .would just have to cool off in the Frio!
We are going. Staying at the La Quinta Inn & Suites.
I'm negotiating with wife to miss her 50th high school reunion....pretty sure I'll be there. Booked room at Motel Six next door
Betty says she is bringing Elwood...... so we will have a couple of open seats available.
Clay
Just saw on the calendar of events that the Longhorn Region PCA out of San Antonio is doing a Twisties Tour the same day. So we'll have a gaggle of Porsches and the usual motorcycles on the same route. I'm driving up from San Antonio on Saturday morning. What time do you plan on hitting the road?
We are going to try to leave the DFW area around noon. That should put us in Kerrville around 4:30 -5:00.
Anyone wanting to travel with us just drop me a PM.
Clay
Trying like hell to get her put back together in time. Gonna try to show up with a california transplant with a 73 that recently moved in 3 streets over.
I am going to clarify something. We will be meeting at 9:14 am. That doesn't mean the tour leaves at that time.
The tour is only about 4 hours. So leaving at 9:14 am would pout us at the restaurant for lunch too early. Plus, this is a very fluid get together, so no stress about meeting a particular departure time.
So be at our hotel at 9:14 am. That is the only "official" time. If you are late, just let me know and we will wait for you.
Coming soon!
Scott and KT are coming! Booked at the Motel 6.
So we've got 3 ladies now? That's already more female representation than other events I've been to with the hubby.
And we will have 2 open seats if anyone needs one. I'm driving my not at all spec Miata and Scott's bringing the 914 if he can nurse it back to health (otherwise the 944).
2 Weeks from Friday!
Hopefully no
For those of you that are going from the DFW area...
If you want to caravan with us heading down, we will be meeting up at the Wal-Mart parking lot at 8840 Benbrook Blvd, Benbrook, TX 76126. We are planning to leave at noon from there.
Clay
I'll be there....Wayne
Ok cool
Karen and Warren are going. yay We will meet at the Benbrook Wal-Mart to caravan with the group.
We are planning to arrive at the Wal-Mart in Benbrook at 11 to eat lunch if anyone wants to join us.
Chick-Fil-A is in the same parking lot as Wal-Mart. We can't decide between that and the Braum's across the street.
See y'all there!
If you are going and want to meet with us in Benbrook, just drop me a PM. I will send you my cell number so you can contact us if you are running late.
Clay
We are going to be at the Chic-Fil-A at 11 if anyone wants to join us.
Does anyone need any parts?
Don't forget to bring folding chairs.
Bring your favorite adult beverages!
We will be leaving East Dallas @ 9:14
Safe travels to all !!
We are here.... Anyone want to go to Stonehenge with us?
Wow, Wish I could be there. Unfortunately stuck here in East Texas, but I will be thinking of Y'all as I work on my car.
Have fun guys , hope somebody gets a bunch of pictures!
.
I know I'm going to regret not making this trip. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Joel & Amy and Gabriel & Kim will be heading up from San Antonio in the morning. Planning on getting there around 9:00.
We are back from dinner. Anyone up for a drink?
We are sitting outside drinking.
Heading home after a great weekend

Everyone had a good time with (10) colorful 914's.
We had an absolute blast! All ya'll are the friendliest bunch and any time we can be down in the Hill Country the driving's always going to be great.
The weather worked out really well, plus, no mechanical issues for anybody on the drive is always a good thing!
Thank you to all of our new friends - and to all the old friends, why the heck aren't we doing this waaaaaay more often?!
Clay, thanks so much for organizing and leading this 914 event. It was great to meet you and all the other 914 fans. It was a great trip! All the best and keep on 914ing. Wayne
I have driven those roads often, but never in the company of so many fine 914s. In fact, I have never seen so many together in one place. Hope everyone enjoyed the roads and the Sisters. Wish I could have stayed around longer on our return Saturday, but an expiring kitchen pass waits for no man! Thanks Clay for setting this up. Hope we do it again some time.
Clay, you and Betty are the best organizers of the non-organized rally. We had a wonderful time meeting so many like minded 914teeners. I hope to have mine together
for the next hill country 914teeners talent event. Thanks so much, Warren and Karen
P.S. And those Creamsicles, yummy
