914World.com _ 914World Garage _ LED people, how would you do this?

Posted by: tazz9924 Oct 13 2021, 08:01 PM

As i scroll down social media sights, i see renderings like the one below and im curious how you would go about accomplishing this tail light design? Im new to led stuff but would you use a strip light to follow the contour, or build a housing and wire them in? How do you set it up to do things like half flash for turn signals and run dim for running lights etc. Anyone with some knowledge would be appreciated. Id like to learn how to do something like this.

Some LED strips will light dim with markers, and full bright with brakes or signal. They come in many lengths and configurations. Look on eBay or Amazon for ideas. The 914 has separate brake and signal lights. If the LED strip uses common brake and signal you can use a trailer lighting adapter to make it work.

I used these to add turn signals to my sport bike:

Not sure how long you can get them, but know they have options for brake vs. turn, as well as tubing color. They were nice and bright on the bike.

Id be worried about durability but it really like something like this. it would easily accomplish my needs. just maybe a little longer.

I have three of those on my car to add some stealth safety. One for a third brake light which also functions as a high tail light, and two tucked behind the front bumper to provide side marker lighting after a side wart delete. They are almost invisible when the lights are off, but can't be ignored when they are lit up.

Durability and reliability are always an issue with cheap Chinese junk. Consider mounting under the engine lid where it will be well protected but still well visible from behind. There are photos elsewhere on this site showing installation.
