914World.com _ 914World Garage _ GB brake reservoir covers $9 after GB $14

Posted by: Mikey914 Oct 20 2021, 11:56 AM

We have been working on this for some time now and are going into production soon.

The brake reservoir covers. I had seen these in the past and since no one wants crud on the top of the reservoir to get into the system, I decided to make these.

I made these in 2 flavors, The thinner material like OEM and a material that is slightly thicker and looks more like the reservoir itself. The thicker one is the 1st prototype shown.

I did actually stumble across one being used in the wild at WCR too!

These will be ready in about a week. Pricing to follow shortly. You know me it will be reasonable.

Mark

You're right: I didn't.

Are you only producing the version with the overflow spigot? My cap on the 73' only has a hole. My guess is to prevent vacuum from building. The reservoir is solid around the top edge. No means for the fluid to escape. I think the spigot version requires a clear tube and the clamp differs.

I've seen (pictures) of these in the past and tried to find them to no avail. Nice addition - I'm in.

Posted by: mmichalik Oct 20 2021, 12:44 PM

I'll take one as well.
Thanks!

1 for the ticker version for me sir Mark

Posted by: StarBear Oct 20 2021, 12:55 PM

I’m in for one of the thinner OEM type.
Had the car since new and don’t think it ever had one, or one of the first services just never replaced it.
Something similar to the dust cap inside the dizzy over the rotor. Very similar material and never to be found ( mine’s still there).

Posted by: brant Oct 20 2021, 01:34 PM

I run the old ones (aftermarket I believe) on both of my cars
but got them years and years ago.

Mark, if you need to see one as your prototyping... let me know

There is a placement for the hole. They don't have to be cut out. It may be easiest just to request no hole for overflow when ordering.

Saw Marks prototype at WCR last week; a very clean looking replacement.

Posted by: PanelBilly Oct 20 2021, 04:17 PM

I’d like one too. Thicker is fine with me.

These were never a factory part. Always aftermarket. A good addition though.

That might explain it. Mine has what looks like a hinge claw and a tab knob on the opposite side, so maybe another multi car use item with some cars having the cap and some not, depending on potential for dirt exposure? blink.gif confused24.gif

I've never had occasion to look, so is the 914 BF reservoir also used in any other cars such as VW's?

agree.gif Never original equipment. An accessory.
As for venting.....or vacuum, early cars had a round shouldered non-vented cap and a
nipple on the resevoir with a drain hose toward the ground.
Later cars had a square shouldered vented cap. On these overflow was contained by
the perimeter wall on the top of the resevoir.
PS never push your caliper pistons back with a full resevoir and a vented cap on a late car.
You'll squirt brake fluid skyward.

The cover has a notch that gets cut out if you have the spigot. It slips over it nicely but will require you to remove the hose and reinstall it after the cover is on. You can see the one we saw at WCR was cut for it and didn't have the overflow. The more opaque version I made (thicker) makes it hard to see as the reservoir is new and the same material. I'll get some better pics up next week.

That's where I saw those years ago through the Automotion/Performance Products catalog. I knew I saw those somewhere as an aftermarket option. Glad to see Mark at 914Rubber is recreating a great accessory. With all that in mind put me in for two of the thicker style ones.

Which beach?
I’m flying back from OGG to Seattle tonight. One of the reasons codes are owing out the 21st.

Didn’t have enough time to hang on the beach but got some exercise today

Schedule has been crazy I’m literally almost at my legal max for the whole month.

Well the code really are out now.
Found that the thinner plastic wasn't readily available locally anymore. Had to source it and get it shipped in. It is in limited quantity right now.

So we will make the thinner ones as long as we can get the material, the cost is the same. We made the fist ones with the holes, so as noted in the PMs sent PLEASE use the message if you want without the hole for the overflow tube.

Thanks all for your patience.
