I'm sorting out a 914 I picked up and think I have an early 1974 1.8 instead of a 1975 1.8 that would have been with this car. The problem is I thought the EC series all had 7 digits and mine has 6. I was expecting a EC0040xxx to EC0043xxx range number and instead found this:
EC006108 may be an early 1974 series but I'm confused with the 6 digits.
The car was built in Feb '75 and all other numbers match or align to the same time frame. The Chassis is #14 on week 8 in'75 and I have this on the engine:
So I don't know if there are some original parts, replaced engine, coincidence on the markings or VW is just messing with me. Any help sorting this out is appreciated.
Thanks,
DaveB

i have a 74 1.8
same number of letters and numerals as what you have posted.
the parts catalogue lists engine numbers with one more 0.
- its either the letter O or the number zero that appears after EC that they leave off the stamped engine number when you compare it to the range listed in parts catalogue.
i have always felt they left off the letter O on the engine stamp.
74s ran from ECO 000 001 to ECO 037 552.
(or as it appears on engine stamp EC000001 to EC037552)
75s ran from ECO 037 553 up.
thats a 74 1.8 engine.
The 1-4-3-2 is the firing order. Looks to be handwritten.
