My 1972 1.7L 914 is in very good shape. But recently the fuel gauge will not go above indicating 1/2, even if the tank is full. Once the tank goes below 1/2 or 1/3, it will start indicating correctly.
I suspect it is some part in the fuel tank sender that should be sliding up and down with the fuel level, and is getting stuck half-way. Any suggestions on how to fix?
Thanks,
Andrei.

easy to clean just be very careful. Those wires are incredibly fine.
Get a container tall enough to put fuel sender in (plastic drink cup). Put sender in cup and fill with lacquer thinner. Let set for about 10 min, drain thinner from small hole on sender. Turn sender side to side and listen for float to move side to side. Repeat as needed. NO NEED to disassemble.
