914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Late window issues

Posted by: joeswaim Nov 25 2021, 11:36 AM

I have a 1973 with the late model window mechanisms.
If I roll down the window too far, when I go to lift the window, the regulator gear jumps the teeth. With the door panel off, I can get under the glass and lift it up a little to relieve the stress and it rolls up fine.
This is the drivers side. The passengers side works great. I don’t think that anything is missing, but something is worn out or not adjusted or needs lubrication.
Any experiences out there?

Thanks

Joe

There is a bottom stop on the regulator...as I recall it is a bolt with a jam nut.
Maybe poorly adjusted or even fell out.

I think the bolt with the jam nut is the limiter for how far it roll UP.

Is the glass still glued (or whatever the black sticky stuff is) into the horizontal channel at the bottom? Mine has come loose on one of my projects, and I’ll need to get that figured out… but I could see it causing problems when rolling window to its lowest point.

I pulled out the window regulator and two teeth are worn at the place the window needs help going up. So, it is to replace the regulator or try to repair by welfding material to the teeth and grinding it down to size.
Any ideas?

I have plenty of good used regulators.
Easier to bolt in a new one

How much for a good drivers side regulator
