914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Ground Studs

My car had been wrecked in the past and had a new front end grafted on. Probably during its race years. When they put the new front end on, it did not have any ground studs where the headlights are.

As a fix, they just used a sheet metal screws for the ground and put it through the fender well. As a result, a couple ground wires are just floating in air not connected because they can not reach the sheet metal screw. I want to hook them up as they should be.

Is there an early v late version of the ground studs and location?

There isn't a ground stud in the nose of the car. BUt the ground wires get looped into bolts and ground that way.

What wires are hanging free? Many of the headlight ground wires wires go to the bolt holes that hold the plastic covers for the headlight actuator arms.

I have a pic of another 74 that has a bolt for a ground connection right by the headlights.

The wires floating free on mine are both brown ground wires. Attached Image

My '73 has Ground studs in the same place as pictured.

It's strange but my grafted on front end did not have the captive nut pockets for the fog lights either. Of course all of these issues were solved with sheet metal screws by the PO!

I'll have to look at some documentation to see if these were both traits of earlier cars.

I guess I will just drill a hole and use a suitable bolt for the connection. I have to check for room for the headlight to pass though.

Does anyone know if either of these M6 or M8 round studs are the ones the factory used?

Found this from Bowlsby, don't know if it is year dependent. It does show what is connected in the front ground stud locations. I should be able to figure out what is not connected and get it hooked up.
