I have a 1974 2.0 914 that I have owned since 1980. It has been sitting for years and I am now losing my garage space and need to do something soon. I have too many other projects and don't think I have the time or resources to bring this car back to life. Of course it has the usual 914 rust but it is all there. I really don't know what this car is worth and would be looking for some ideas of what to sell it for. As soon as I can figure out how to add some pictures I will.

Throwing caution to the wind... I clicked!! Goes to a bunch of photos of a pretty sad little 914. My advice to the poster is that unless you have the budget to do a full, fully torn down restoration, then this is a parts car for someone, or a car for someone who has the time and budget. I can see the car is sagging which means full longs replacement; cowl rust; rust by the front suspension... its ROUGH. This is a car for someone with alot of resources to fix, and then drive as you won't likely get the money out of it. You would have to do it for the joy of the project. my .02 cents.

Mine was worse, but I had history with it.

That is sad to see. The chances of that car getting back on the road are not good. I think @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=10825 made you a good offer. In his hands that car will help others live on.

I hate seeing these east coast cars slowly dissolve due to rust but it's so hard to turn back the hands of time once the salt has had its way with the structure.

I paid $500 for a car in similar condition (depending on how much mouse and squirrel poo is in this one) and parted it out.

I got my first 914 from a guy who took it (East coats car) apart 30+ years ago and it sat in his mothers garage. Mom passed and he had to get rid of the hulk. It was 6 hours away, but I showed up with a U Haul trailer and now addicted. Cost to seller $0.00

But you get what you pay for, a few thousand and many many hours later, she is still far from roadable.

As I can attest, a completely rust free soCal/Az 914 can be had for not much money these days. My 71 cost 3K to buy and 42K to sell on BAT. I will not discuss the inbetween and eratta that got it to 42............ Done right, there is enough spread to buy another Porsche (albeit, a Boxster S) with the profits.

I think Mark's offer is a real decent one given the insurmontable issues shown in the photos.

My impression; this car is very rough and will take a significant investment of time and money to bring back to life. That said, this thread shows where the 914 sits after the flurry of interest and appreciation in our cars. If this were a 356 or an early 911 there would be no question of saving for restoration. A ‘74 2.0 stands in the upper tier of 914 desirability and yet the collective response is that this is a parts car, not a candidate for restoration.

I don’t mean this as critical; it is simply my observation of where the 914 market stands as of early December 2021.
