Hi guys,
I thought it would be time to introduce myself. 40 years old now and had a lot of classic cars to toy with in the past, started with a beetle 20 more then 20 years ago and ended up now with this 914. I've had a soft spot for them for years, I regret not buying one earlier because the prices keep creeping up but hey that's life...
I haven't taken good photos of the car yet because I immediately started fiddling around with it. It came with american racing le mans wheels, these where painted badly, paint started peeling off, cracks in the paint, overall a bit of a messy look. So my first job was addressing the wheels.
Dem
the start, you can see the bad state of the paint
Here you can see the rims after I glass blasted them
next up was polishing the lip on a friends' balance machine
bought new shiny centercaps
last step was covering the heart of the rim with graphite spray to darken it a bit, let it rest for 2 days, wipe it of and put a layer of 2K clear coat on them.
It's not a professional job but I'm satisfied with it. Next step is fitting the wheels with longer studs for a more classic race look.
A friend of mine is making these flanges to mount the wheels with the longer studs instead of the specific american racing bolts. Quite a job but hopefully worth it in the end.
The fog light / driving light lenses where pretty beat up so I scored a few nos yellow lenses, polished the ring and mounted them. Looks nice combined with the black paint imho.
I hope I can find some European forum members that can point me in the right direction for parts. Most of the parts I've already found are located in the USA, shipping and customs make those expensive.
Next on the list I'm thinking of is a new carpet set, a Rennshift, a vintage speed GT muffler perhaps and going to a local expert to get the engine 100% dialed in.
My guess it's a later 1800 with 40 IDF carbs.
Wheels look nice, I like the yellow lenses.
Yep a few Belgians around here myself included.
Antwerp region so Flemish speaking.
Fm which area are you ?
Enjoy yr car and hope to meet you soon somewhere
in our tiny country

Enjoy the learning curve.
Welcome to the wonderful world of 914 ownership. This site will be your savior. Hopefully you will be able to locate and source parts locally to save you the shipping, etc. of buying parts in the USA. Keep us posted on your progress as you get your car dialed in.
More pics of the car - please?
