Actually, I think that your vision was distorted by the case of pink eye you had then. I am actually that short. I drive a 914 with the seat slid all the way forward. |
Great job CLay
Now I get to get back out to my garage and find my blocked return line.

Congrats!!
That is a sweet looking ride. Love the look of those flares. Everything seems to flow nicely into eachother (flares, rocker panels and bumpers)
More pics would be nice.
Cheers, and good luck with it, Dominic.
Looks great Clay!
Man, thanks for all the help, Clay... it's not just a little good news to hear you HEARING YOUR CAR~!
YAY!
M
sweet ride
Who color matched your car to the fire bottle, Clay?
M
congrats clay. we need more pics! are you dring it to MUSR?
poor planning if you didn't get current tabs last friday. you could be drivng instead of typing. HURRAY FOR YOU THO!!!

Way to go Clay!!!
It will be at the MUSR this year. I am currently getting a drink inside, but we have the gas tank paint drying right now.
I am working on installing a speedo cable. I have to temporarily use a standard 914 speedo instead of the electronic 911 speedo. For some reason, it does not work, and I don't have time to troubleshoot it.
Got a whole list of things to do to the car, and only a month to get them done.
But it will be at MUSR.
Oh, and miles, I painted the fire bottle to match the car.
More detailed pictures later this week.
Congrats, Clay! That's awesome.

I thought my progress was slow...
Betty finally help you?
Grats Clay.
Awesome!
Dibs on a ride in it at MUSR7!!!
..
Awesome Clay
I can't wait to see/hear the car in action ... I am sure it will be much more fun than following a bunch of 914's in a rental

It is Alive!
Jason and I when over to see the smile on Clay's face. Five years, and two Ford F150s taps later.
It has risen as a Phoenix.

This man deserves every bit of pride and pleasure this car will offer. And Betty deserves a great big golden star for the years of patience and love for both Clay and This Great Dream Car that have created.
Sorry if I sound mushy but it is very uplifting to see such super car back on the road and the folks that built it have proven to be two of the 914Clubs finest!
They both have helped and given many of us, by giving of their time and even many parts from the parts stash in the attic.
We all are looking forward to the MUSR in Granbury, Texas
way to go!...now is it all worth it?
Congrats, man!

awesome man!! I was about to send an email to ask if you fired it off... then DD bumped the thread!! congrats!!
sweet looking car, btw!
Congrats! Great looking car. I love everything painted to match!

Congratulations Clay!!
The fire extinguisher speeks to your conservative nature.
I'm glad it wasn't necessary to use it.
Actually the fire extinguisher speaks to "been there, done that"
My wife's 914 burnt to the ground one time, and a friend of mine had his airplane burn up in a hangar fire.
I am paranoid about fire....
Thanks for all the good wishes!!
Come to the MUSR and see the car for yourself!!!

Ah CRAP...
Yesterday Jason and Greg Fox came over to borrow my welder so Jason could do hell hole repairs. I started my car for them, and after they left I pulled it in the garage. I blipped the throttle a couple of times so I could hear it and then shut it down.
Today I put the gas tank in and then I go to start it. Yep, you guessed it, no start.
I start checking around, I have fuel pressure and ignition, and it fires with some carb spray down the stacks.
So I stick my hand on the back of the injection pump and I find this.......
Attached image(s)
For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the injection pump timing belt. This was a used one that came with the motor. Without it, the pump doesn't turn so no fuel gets injected. And it's unique to MFI injection so 99% of you won't ever have to worry about this.
Now I get the joy of finding TDC on #1, and then the Z1 mark. And I am going to paint that sucker on the flywheel while I am there.
Then I get to play with mirrors and such to get the belt timed right.
Just another little thing to add to my list.......
Good news is, the gas tank is in, and the mechanical speedo is installed.
that sux man!
Well, despite the broken belt, congratulations! It is such an incredible joy & relief when it finally funs for the first time and you know that you didn't screw it up! I hope you get to actually enjoy it real soon!
Clay,
Where's your 5 year project thread? Oh, I should talk...
Nice job and congrats!

Sounds like you need to make lots of paint marks on all the rotating bits... Particularly on the flywheel! That can help you line everything up a little more easily--especially if you put some kind of viewing window in the rear engine tin.
--DD
Next time the motor is out I am going to put the timing marks on the flywheel, and add a hole in the engine tin for aligning the timing belt marks. But for now, I have to do it the hard way.
Clay,
It's nice to see you tasting the fruits of your labors. Congrats on your progress.
-Ben M.
Last night I spent a few hours working on the car. I baselined the settings on the stacks so it would run somewhat in sync. That helped a bunch in the ruinning, but it's still running real rich, and pops back through the stacks. But it was running well enough so I could take it out of the driveway and down the street for a drive!!!!!!
Now I need to align it and get it inspected.
Clay, Your car looks great. I like the solid red. Woo-Hoo!
Could you describe your wheel and tire sizes? Spacers?
Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Clay. Good looking combination.
So, the 944 Fuchs have more positive offset (less backspace) than the 911 Fuchs? I'll have to dig out the wheel offset info I've saved somewhere.
Clay,
Wow! I am impressed! I am really going to pick your brain at the MUSR7 about all the little trick bits on that car!
And, btw, I also drive with the seat all the way fwd. "Short people got, no body..."
I have a good "short" story to tell you about the time I went to Seattle to pick up my blue -6.
Good luck,
George
...and when it's all worked out, HE'S GOING TO GIVE IT TO ME FOR WHAT HE HAS IN IT!
$580,342.93!!!!
(labor included)
WOOHOO! Clay have what I need, mon!
