Gotta take care of the infrastructure!
It can become a major obsession with me when I am up to my eyeballs in hazardous chemicals, cheap chinese-made tools, and 100 filthy oil soked rags everywhere. Just gotta keep on keep on keep on keep on...
STOP for a couple of days. Wait till late at night then do some piddly stuff that won't get all involved. Straighten up tools and parts, re-organize a little. Try not to let teener-work be your highest priority (for a couple of days, thats all).
Doesn't take long around my house before they've had enough of me and I am freed to disappear under the car (again).

Have you given her the "I have a dream" speech? If you have and she still says you're spending too much time on the car then, well, you might be spending too much time on the car.
