914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Identify base Boxster calipers from S calipers

Posted by: dwillouby Apr 23 2022, 03:36 PM

Hello

I got a set of front and rear Boxster calipers to upgrade onto my 914.

Was told by the seller they are the non S versions.

Having issues with finding the correct front pads. The pads for the base Boxster dont fit correctly.

Spent a lot of time cleaning & refinishing these.

Wondering if I actually received S calipers. Is there a way to confirm what calipers I have?

Thanks

David

start with posting photos and part numbers

are they already installed on car?

pulled this info from a thread on the bird, in summary, S rotors are larger diameter and thicker. The S pad is larger. The caliper should be slightly wider to accommodate a 4mm thicker rotor.

Non'S':
F Disc 298mm, Pistons in Calipers 2x40,2x36 mm , pad area 216 cm^2
R Disc 292mm, Pistons in Calipers 2x30,2x28 mm , pad area 196 cm^2

"S":
F Disc 319mm, Pistons in Calipers 2x40,2x36 mm, pad area 254 cm^2
R Disc 299mm, Pistons in Calipers 2x30,2x28 mm, pad area 196 cm^2

Part numbers, should have thought of that.
Front 996 351 426
Rear 996 352 422

Thanks

Where I am looking they are showing two more numbers. Like 996 351 426-01 or 11

The places I went are saying 911, with the 01 where 11 looks like it fits a few things including boxster.

Thanks for the info, So these seem to be S calipers. You stated you have the S calipers on your car?
Did you use a Boxster front rotor? I have new 24mm 911 rotors that I guess I have to eat. Attached Image Rotor doesnt go past old pads.

Thanks

Another nail in my coffin.

Tried putting the front wheel on and found that the front calipers rub. Using 6 X 16 Fuchs. Rear seem to be good with 7 X 16 Fuchs.

Now my options seem to be.

Grind the calipers for clearance and deal with all the other issues.

Work with the seller as they were misrepresented in the ad.

Buy or trade for 2 correct non Boxster front calipers and try to sell these.

Put the old calipers and rotors back on and say the hell with it.

Bummer with the issues you are having. I can dig up part numbers if it helps, but I did have the following info handy in my notes for the front rotor.

28 mm wide
12.5” or 318 mm diameter

Does the front work with a wheel spacer?

Thanks for all the info.

I am going to try to buy the correct versions and sell the S calipers.
