I'm curious what opinions are on how much difference there will be in performance between the dual two barrel Webers and two single barrel carbs?
Totally different machine but had a 72'BMW 2002 that was actually peppier with the
original Solex single than the Weber dual I eventually put on it.
I sort of figure two singles on a 1.8 should be fine for the streets of Queens and the BQE.
Built the motor with a stock cam (I think) and probably around 8.0 compression by my math.
Oh and when I was given the car it was basket case completely apart and 90% of FI parts missing so thats kind of out.Oh its a 1974 1.8l car
Thanks

install dual 40s anything else (except the original fuel injection!!!!!) will be a waste of time
You'll always get better performance out of dual carbs over a single.
Start with Weber 40's stock jetting, AEM AFR meter, Syncrometer (SK), CSP linkage OR tangerine, CB performance rotary fuel pump. Stainless steel fuel line - at least one.
Ok cool.
Aircooled seems to have the 40 IDF kit available.
Thanks very much for your help.
Now I've got to search for some posts about what distributor is best. . . .
Pertronix svda best bang for the buck next would be the 123, pricey but like tangerines linkage it is the best.
I ran dual 34ICTs on a 1.7L for awhile. They worked well for a commuter but you definitely notice a loss of top end. Can't comment much on low end because I was running the horrible 009 dizzy with its notorious dead spot. I think the 34ICTs would have been fine for low end with a better dizzy. If you want your car to scoot, go with the 40IDFs. Someone recently commented that 34ICTs aren't much cheaper than 40IDFs which makes the choice easy. IMO, the best is to go FI, either stock or something modern like Megasquirt. I'm hoping to ditch my 40IDFs for Megasquirt this winter.
I wouldn't use dual ICTs on a T4 unless it was the only available option.
Single Holley carb setups are better imo.
For a long time, the stock 1.8L distributor was the hot ticket for carb conversions. Might try running that if you happen to have one.
This thread has come up SO many times and I'am surprised that no one has mentioned the Kadron carbs, been on the Kaddie Shack website and they offer a kit for T4 motors, research indicates they should work well and not suffer issues the 34ICT's have which is caused by small throttle bore and small stock venturi's which you can't change or that was the case on a T1 buggy motor I fitted these to ?.
These carbs work pretty well on a small displacement T1 motor as I found out.
Downside is the Kadron kit isn't that cheap but by the time you buy a set of IDF's they look like a pretty good solution for a 1.7-2.0 mild engine ?.
Food for thought as they say ?,comments welcomed, cheers.
I remember one time I ran Kadrons on my beetle...
I'd run Chinese knock off idfs before I'd run kadrons.
I leave in Mexico City in the high part of the city by the mountain. Elevation: 2586m / 8484feet, will a 40mm dual carb work better than the 44mm?
Not as much oxygen here as I would like. ( I think the more Air the better)
I Have a bored 2.15L ported balanced motor with ported redline manifolds and 44mm webers, looking forward to install the CB performance conical trumpets which I was told will do a better job here too..
I also installed the CB performance ignition which has worked fine so far. (Less than. 500miles on them, I know too soon to tell, but it works)
