I need to get my fog covers ready for paint. Looks as though they were silver/chrome.
What is the correct finish?

If you mean the back cover housing for the fog lamps, they were black on the 914 but would be chrome on the 911.

Sorry, this was pretty vague. I meant the grill covers for the fogs and horns. They are plastic, and need love.

Chrome ones for chrome bumpers. Painted for painted bumpers. Black for LE cars.

If they are suppose to be chromed, use 0000 steel wool and water. Go easy and take your time. Here's my before/after (right/left) of mine.

Try some Barkeeper's Friend. Contains oxolic acid. Really brightens up Chrome bumpers. Be gentle. No scrubbing.
