914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1.8 Injectors

A bit of a mystery about a set of four 1.8L injectors compared to known info. Known is VW/Bosch part 022906301C/0028150112, with spec of 18.1 lbs/hr or 190.2 cc/min. See top of pic (blue module).
This other set (bottom of pic gray module) has same VW number but has Bosch number 0028150102 (not 112); Mr Injector test results show 200 cc/min. Looks same as known. Can find no reference for a Bosch injector ending in 102.
Questions: 1. Might the second set just be stamped wrong or are older, being superseded by 112?
2. Any undesirable or unwanted results from flow slightly higher than spec? Would it run rich?
Way out of my wheelhouse here, so community experience and wisdom much appreciated!

Jeff's table is still the best reference tool going IMO: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=78993&st=0&p=1105007&#entry1105007

a quick google search of that Bosch number shows an ebay ad for fitment to a 75-79 VW Bug.

Thanks, Van; hadn’t seen that thread or table. Still weird as to no Bosch -102 reference.
As for question 2, enough flow difference (.9 lbs/hr) to notice?

Looks like a reference to -102 in the post by p914; same impedance and other parameter but no flow spec.

These systems aren't measuring resulting mixture at all, hence no O2 sensors. So, it will inject fuel based on upstream inputs only; no down stream trimming.

Are you thinking about a mix and match set or running all 102 vs 112s?

Van; if I use them I’d use all four matched, tested -102 units. Correct VW part number on them but the variant Bosch number is throwing me. Current ones running ok but the are 50 years old so maybe not as good as they could be. Not an urgent or required changeout, for sure, but would like to confirm to keep for future install. confused24.gif

I guarantee you that your old injectors are not spraying evenly. My engine smoothed out so much with new flow matched injectors... made a little more power too.

Anyway, running a matched set is definitely the correct way. At worst you'll just need to trim fuel a bit. But remember that .9lbs/hr is max flow rate. Dynamic flow measurement allows you to match fueling curves at part throttle loads which is where your bigger flow difference is likely to be.

When I had those 7 tested, one of the three that failed was spot on at max flow, but the curve was way low; meaning that cylinder would be lean as hell during regular driving.

@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=224 Ed; any insight or experience on this mystery?

Bill “Mr. Injector” informs me that the two are equivalent (hence same VW number).
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=104 another 1.8 equivalent part number for your table?

the 102 injectors are not attributable to any particular make or model of car.
not sure what that means.

similar info

definitely some kind of very close substitute.

I agree. The grey top injectors look exactly like the injectors in my 1979 VW Super Beetle. I'm not sure of the part number and neither love nor money will persuade me to pull them out to check :-). I just had them out to send off to Mr. Injector for refurbishing. When I get home I'll see if there is any information on the paperwork he sent back.
