So, I have read several posts and watched several videos to do with engine rebuilds. I am wondering what people recommend for the engine case sealant. In Jake Raby's video, he used Aviation gasket sealer, which I have used on other applications with great success.
That being said, this is my first type IV build, so I am seeking input from those who have done their own builds. I would like to know what you used, why and pros and cons.
Thanks for any input......
Yes, good old fashion Permatex Aviation Gasket Sealer.

Curel T-2 for the case and cylinder bases. Loctite 518 for the oil pump. My case is tight as a frogs ass and that's water proof.
Drei Bond
I used curil K2 on the case and have no leaks. Check out Jake’s video on the sealants he uses on the type 4 Facebook group
I used Loctite 574 (or whichever is the orange stuff) on mine when I rebuilt the case in the late 80s. Not knowing what I was doing, I figured whatever Porsche was using would be a good choice. I remember it being spendy, but easy to apply. The engine sat sealed but unfinished for 30 years before first start and now has 6K miles with no leaks.
I used Yamabond for the cases, (get at your local Yamaha dealer) Same as Hondabond.
But a local Indy, that was a Porsche tech recommended the Loctite 574
My case does not leak with the Yamabond
Looking at the article that @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=24575 linked, it seems the test isn't whether they seal the case so it doesn't leak (seems they all do that pretty well), but whether the residue can contaminate the engine and possibly clog an oil galley. Looks like the Loctite and Aviation Sealant are the winners there.
Thanks everyone for your input. Ireally appreciate it. Looks like a toss up between the 574 and Permatex Aviation. I have used the Permatex on other items and found it very user friendly and leak proof. So I guess it depends on availability of the 574.
Double post
There is a comprehensive thread over on Pelican that essentially ends with a definitive sealant kit assembled and sold by Henry Schmit proprietor ot Supertech. It is intended for 911 sixes but should work just fine. Henry knows his stuff
The thread is many pages long. Lots and lots of discussion.
I used the kit to seal my six 5 years ago. No leaks
Wurth. Orange stuff, I can't remember its name. Choice #2 is Gasgacinch.
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/SPTCSUPCSK001.htm?pn=SPTC-SUP-CSK-001. A variety of sealants for different uses. Looks like 574 for the case.
What ?.......no one is using the FlexSeal family of fine home sealants ?
Now available at Walmart and Target.
